When do schools break up for summer holidays

I'm looking to book a term time holiday, when do schools in England generally break up for the summer holidays? Appreciate there will be slight variations between different areas. We're elsewhere in the UK and are looking to beat the summer rush, looking around the 12th July.

OP posts:

You must be near me. It's so late compared to most schools.

It’s 25th July in my area. 12th July is incredibly early for any state schools in England to break up

It depends where you live, I have a friend whose children break up that week every year, totally normal where she lives

Shinyandnew1 · 03/06/2024 19:37

19th here.

Hopefullymovinghouse · 03/06/2024 19:37

@Whinge 2 weeks at October half term though?

MyOtherCarisAVauxhallZafira · 03/06/2024 19:38

19th is the last day here

19th July for high schools. Greater Manchester

Dinosaursdontgrowontrees · 03/06/2024 19:40

19th is the last day here (London)

Brace for this, all state schools - the sixth form breaks on 27th June , the secondary breaks on 11 July and the primary breaks up on 19th July.

Notimeforaname · 03/06/2024 19:43

Irish secondary schools have finished up already, last week of may.

Primary schools finish last week of june.
So there will be lots of irish families about anyway.

Wow. Do they still go back in September?

goingdownfighting · 03/06/2024 19:46

Ah so I have something very useful for this:

WappityWabbit · 03/06/2024 19:47

We've broken up already, hurrah!! (Ireland) 🥳

Notimeforaname · 03/06/2024 19:47

Yes, or during the last week of August for a couple of half days.

Best part of my childhood was having 2 or 3 full months off every summer.

Summerfreezemakesmedrinkwine · 03/06/2024 19:49

My secondary kid is in a free school, so they extend the day and have longer holidays than that map charts.

OnehundredStars · 03/06/2024 19:50

Already off (Ireland)

Edited

I don't think I have the mettle for that. 🫣 It'll end up like when I was hiding in the bathroom during covid.

dementedpixie · 03/06/2024 19:51

We always go away at the end of June/start of July as our Scottish school finishes up towards the end of June (this year its the 26th June)

tarheelbaby · 03/06/2024 19:55

Probably, you'd have more useful results by googling the LEAs or the county councils of counties you might want to visit. e.g. Hampshire County Council term dates 2024.

hopeishere · 03/06/2024 20:00

End of June for Northern Ireland!

GrandHighPoohbah · 03/06/2024 20:02

I agree with the PP who said June or September is best for cheaper prices, less busy but still nice weather. As you can see from the responses, any time in July is already peak season.

Hopefullymovinghouse · 03/06/2024 20:04

@Whinge I actually think this is a much better holiday pattern!
