Characters that just disappeared without being mentioned again

Watching young Sheldon and we have an entire episode dedicated to little Bobbi Sparks and how she was bullying Sheldon…to never be mentioned again.

Peggy Mitchell in Eastenders was originally played by Jo Warne, disappeared for a few years and came back reincarnated as Babs Windsor.

One that vexes me isn't a disappearing character, it's a mysteriously appearing one - Luella's sister in Shakespeare and Hathaway.

The first episode is Lu's wedding and there are lots of scenes with her mum. No mention of a sister. Mum is in another episode later (tennis club.) No mention of a sister.

In the carpet warehouse episode, Lu says she is an only child and always wanted a sister, or something like that.

Then out of the blue she suddenly has a sister and we learn that their mum has been dead for a year, despite not being mentioned previously.

I am irrationally annoyed about this, given that the show is a load of lighthearted nonsense.

We had drunk mums in the last but one episode!

He grew up and became methadone mick!

This happens so frequently The Archers. Characters have big, central storylines then suddenly disappear never to be mentioned again. There's a whole list of Silent Characters too. Names mentioned often, but never speak.

Rosie Kevin and sallys daughter

That’s a good one!! She appears and then poof never mentioned again. Even when she was in immigration custody. She never once asked “but what about my baby?”

Lucille in Call The Midwife - she buggered off to Jamaica for a holiday and left poor old Cyril. He hasn't mentioned her at all this series.

No one has mentioned her!!! Or Patsy and Delia, or Valerie.

You never hear about Sister Hilda or Sister Frances.

Or the nuns that were mysteriously there during chaplain and then disappear to never be seen again

I assumed she left and came back once it died down

Lucy in Neighbours, went to Europe for a trip, came back a different actress.

Downtown abbey - that wounded soldier who was possibly that long lost cousin/romantic interest of Edith? He just disappeared and that was that.

Working moms - this one really bugged me! It was the girlfriend of the single dad. There was such a big episode about their relationship and then she disappeared. Not only did she disappear but the dad was suddenly single and getting with Jenny again. What??

Fat Friends - Val disappeared. They mentioned something about Scotland so I guess that was something.

Kim Fischer in The Mentalist got the boot between seasons and was never spoken of again.

Marissa's little sister on The OC was one of those kids who went from young pony-riding child to stroppy teen played by a completely different actress overnight.

Also Sam - he took 90 days leave for his campaign, lost the election, then just didn't come back and no one mentioned him again until the last couple episodes of season 7.

Yes, this really annoys us! She was last heard of working in a hospital over there, but I thought it was still an extended trip rather than a permanent move. I am also surprised that some of the people at his church are not making more comments or asking slightly pointed questions. He doesn’t even get letters - he’d mention her to his friends/her former colleagues, surely!

Patsy and Delia moved to Scotland and someone had a postcard from them mentioning that they’d just got a cat.

A couple of things on Kim’s convenience - like when Janet suddenly becomes bi and kisses someone then never again?

Oh and Janet’s girl best friend who disappears never to return!

@RenegadeKeeblerElf There a a few in West Wing I can think of. Like Matthew Perry's character Joe, who appeared for one season and disappeared. Ainsley Hayes disappeared for a couple of seasons too, until they mentioned her moving on to make a vacancy for Joe.

Carries sister in King of Queens, mentioned in first episode, never seen/heard of again.

Tims brother in Not Going Out. Mentioned in episode 2 of series 1, never again and then he has a sister.

Tim then goes to Germany for work and is never mentioned by Lee & Lucy again, strange considering he is the kids uncle.

Many years back in Grange Hill, I’m thinking mid-90s, there was a character called Anna. She was a bit gobby and obnoxious. They showed part of her home life with disinterested parents. The end of the show that year was the third year going on a choir trip to Germany, when they came back she was just stood alone in the schoolyard after everyone else had been collected. Never mentioned in the next series.

Anita from Band of Gold, major character in the first two series. I know it was re-tooled and became ‘Gold’ for series 3 but it was still set in the same area and the women had been through a few murders/attempted murders and so much together but she was never mentioned.

Even for most of these a throwaway line like “Oh, she’s really enjoying living in Leeds” or “Mum & Dad loved their holiday with Tim”. It’s weird to just act like these people never existed, especially those that are related to other characters!

In books:

Miss Simms from the ‘Agatha Raisin’ series. Quite a main character in the first few books then never written about/mentioned again.
