A Get Things Done thread

Needanewjobsoon · 29/04/2024 09:44

I am a chronic procrastinator and feeling lonely today so all I want to do is hide in bed and play on my phone.

I have a Ton of sorting to do (mainly resources for work) and my house is awful.

I was just thinking instead of hiding in bed feeling lonely and overwhelmed I'd start a thread in case anyone else fancied company today while Getting Things Done.

I'm going to Go Downstairs at 10.10 and make a cup of tea and Get Started.

(I know some people probably don't find life so overwhelming but I currently am!)

I’ve been really productive recently. Perhaps it’s thanks to this thread! A bit of encouragement goes a long way.

Today I’ve got to;
Do two more loads of washing
Package and post things that I sold on Vinted
Try and fix the robovac
Mend some damaged clothes

Good work everyone!

Castlerigg · 29/05/2024 12:19

Today I need to:

Pay my electricity bill
Make a quiche
Start writing a business plan

So far I have:
Drunk coffee
Done a stack of filing

Rummikub · 29/05/2024 12:54

The filing is a good task to complete though.
so far I’ve gone for a wee and got back in bed. I may have a second snooze.

Rummikub · 04/06/2024 23:44

Tomorrow I must do my car insurance. I have no idea why I find this such an arduous task.

Castlerigg · 12/06/2024 09:35

Is anyone else Getting Anything Done? Because I'm not! Back on it today, I'm at work but have a bag of stuff for the chazzer that's been in the car for weeks, so I'll drop that off at lunch time.

The house is a tip, there's just STUFF everywhere, I don't know where to start.

MirandaWest · 12/06/2024 09:37

I need to join this thread today. I’ve taken today off so I can get the house sorted and am still in bed.

Will get up and go for a run and then get stuck in.

Rummikub · 12/06/2024 11:42

I sorted out my car insurance at least!

I left a list of things to do on my chair. I’ve not done any.

Im thinking of implementing the post it method instead of lists.

GiveYourHeadAWobble · 12/06/2024 13:38

I had the house deep-cleaned by two cleaners (took them four hours) and it’s the best money I’ve ever spent! I’ve never used cleaning services before, but I’ve been unwell since last summer and the housework all got on top of me.
I can focus on other things on my to-do list now.

MirandaWest · 12/06/2024 13:51

Had run and walk and have dealt with kitchen and living room. Having lunch now and then will do bathrooms.

frozendaisy · 12/06/2024 14:06

I am going to do an hour decluttering the shed. I am absolutely sure that more storage can be gained

I am going in.......

Castlerigg · 12/06/2024 23:25

@frozendaisy Hope you're not still in the shed, or trapped under a toppled mountain of stuff!

Well done on the physical exercise @MirandaWest - I tried running once, it's not for me.

@Rummikub good work sorting your car insurance. How do tasks like that just manage to drain the life out of us?

I took the bag of stuff to the charity shop, made A List and crossed a couple of things off it.

Rummikub · 12/06/2024 23:35

I have no idea but dread it every year. Going through the nonsense of getting them to price match and comparison sites

Ive made a list of 6 similar jobs Incl postal vote and I’ve done 3. Sounds good but the hardest ones left.

But I did get my next lot of meds out. I’ve gone without for two days :o

Rummikub · 12/06/2024 23:37

@MirandaWest you sound v productive!

@frozendaisy yes are you stuck in the shed

@Castlerigg i feel the same way about running. Good work getting stuff out the house.

I watched Nick Knowles big house clear out to give me a push..

Castlerigg · 13/06/2024 07:01

The Nick Knowles thing sounds good, I'll look out for it.

Rummikub · 13/06/2024 17:01

It was on W.

It’s not as good as start Solomon sort your life out. In that they get support to declutter. And asked do they require 30 pairs of boots. I love seeing how much stuff they have as it makes me feel better!

Haven’t done anything today.

Hows everyone else getting on?

GiveYourHeadAWobble · 13/06/2024 17:06

I’ve done a few things on my to-do list. I’ve made soup for tonight, done some washing, done a dog walk, made some phone calls that i’d been putting off.

I’ve got to do some decorating. I need to paint a door frame, windowsill and some skirting boards. Might as well do that today.

ssd · 13/06/2024 17:08

I feel the same op

frozendaisy · 13/06/2024 17:11

I didn't get stuck in the shed, did make a few decisions, pair of heavy, big, long, white curtains taking up space of a filled normal bin bag are off to charity shop. Couple of broken things disposed of, the two stand alone heaters that needed storing but to do that I needed to move a table, to do that I needed to clear the top and as I was doing that might as well fill the space under worktop.

After all this we can now walk to the end, more things stored, some things still need to go but with the rest of them only showing them the benefits of space makes them make decisions.

Today I put together our new big garden, turn the handle shade umbrella thing. Pissing down from now until, well lord knows, but at least it's done.

So rainy weekend can return back to house.

I did loft clothes last week.

My next two "big" declutters are.
Digital photographs - which I get too distracted going "arh" at when they were little.
One month at a time.

And years of admin to shread, file, other. Lord take me now!

I will update when I am ready to start either of these. I reckon I will last 10 minutes at most.

Give me a dusty shed any day of the week

Last time I tried admin I ended up sharpening pencils (electric sharpener) instead!

frozendaisy · 13/06/2024 17:16

I found out this week youngsters vaccination record at doctors is incomplete, he has had all his jabs, all voluntary ones as well so not sure what has gone wrong. So need to find the records for those.

Now I have an official reason, that is for a nipper, it becomes less of a chore. At least the kids stuff will get looked at.

toycat · 13/06/2024 17:25

As soon as we get a few hours dry spell, I've been putting stuff we can't sell outside. Cleared loads already and totally cheers me up.

Did a wash today. Need to do the washing up next

Rummikub · 13/06/2024 17:39

You are all doing so well.

im the sane with photographs - get distracted. I have 2/3 albums holding 200 photos each- a set like this for every holiday. My dc won’t want them. So I’m considering culling them to keep only the pics with people in. I’m trying to also channel the principles of Swedish death cleaning.

Castlerigg · 15/06/2024 09:30

I'm tidying the kitchen this morning.

Had hoped to weed the block paved area of the garden, and collect elderflowers for making cordial, but it has just started chucking it down, so neither of those will be happening. Maybe later if it dries up.

frozendaisy · 15/06/2024 10:31

So lazy start, no plans out of house this weekend (revision mainly)

So need to do usual boring chores, laundry to hang inside again, washing up, recycling.

Then get eldest at table with books.

Then the dreaded clean dry laundry (the stuff that is already done put away) if anyone has any tips on how this Achilles heel can be overcome. Some weeks I am fine do abit at a time. Oh I hate it.

I have a reward today, if I clear everything I will set up my new easel the kids got me. This is the carrot. Just need to do a lot of sticks first.

So I am thinking I need about 15 up down stairs never empty handed.

Rummikub · 15/06/2024 12:35

I’ve got shops and tip today.
I like tip day.

And should carry on clearing surfaces in kitchen.

I hate dealing with dry washing too. And drying washing too.

frozendaisy · 15/06/2024 13:43

Every bastard clean dry piece of cloth is where it should be, including but not exclusive to, bathroom mats, X3 rehung curtains, every bastard spare sock which could get paired and all hoodies in porch.

One more trip up-down with objects to one destination and, for now that's the up-down finished.

One load of wet clean hung
Hand wash waiting to go in that is like 6 items, them first load for tomorrow (line day ☝) and then.

One more washing up round.
Kitchen surfaces
Hoover but I don't mind hoovering takes minutes for massive difference

Have done about 50 squats picking stuff up putting it away, 200-300 stairs.

Another hour or so to easel construction, the carrot.

Just having a coffee first.
