What's actually IN your (massive) salad?

My regular salad is: (I eat this in one sitting)

Spinach leaves as the base two decent handfuls
A few rocket leaves
Cherry tomatoes (4) cut in half
Teaspoon of pesto
Half an avocado chopped up
One beetroot chopped up
Diced cucumber
A tin of tuna

Mix it all around. Delicious.

I’ve just eaten this massive salad -

Spinach
Lambs lettuce
Basil
Roast yellow pepper
Feta cheese
Dates
Hazelnuts
Almonds
Pine nuts
Mixed seeds
4 x Falafel
Herb, oil, white wine vinegar, honey

Olives would’ve been nice, if I had any!

GoodLordHelpMe · 25/04/2024 22:03

You've both missed the sweetcorn!

goldenretrievermum5 · 25/04/2024 22:03

My all time favourite salad! :

Quorn ‘chicken’
Vegan pea protein ‘bacon’
Cos lettuce
Shredded beetroot
Shredded carrot
Croutons
Caesar dressing
Parmesan

Not the healthiest but definitely a dinner that I really look forward to

Tonight I had…
iceberg lettuce
red pepper
sweetcorn
cherry tomatoes
jalapenos
cucumber
spring onions
Coleslaw
feta cheese
balsamic dressing
bacon bits

the veg all has to be chopped up tiny

TulipBluebells · 25/04/2024 22:05

I do enjoy a bit of fruit in my massive salad. A tablespoon of pomegranate or some halved grapes.

AGlinnerOfHope · 25/04/2024 22:06

Chopped stuff, I call it rainbow salad-
celery, cucumber, sweetcorn, grated cheese, lettuce, cherry toms, peppers, carrot, radish, mushroom, all diced. Peanuts.

Something on top- cooked chicken, ham , halloumi or boiled egg.

Or herbs and bulgar with celery, cucumber etc.

TodayForTomorrow · 25/04/2024 22:06

Rocket
Red onion
Sweetcorn
Cucumber
Cherry tomatoes halved
Diced cheddar cheese
Hard boiled egg
Good quality coleslaw
Plenty of salt and pepper

Usually with naice ham or a chicken leg

RobinBobbin · 25/04/2024 22:13

Rocket and lettuce
Chunks of fresh pear
Crumbled blue cheese
Beetroot
Avocado
Vine ripened tomatoes
Balsamic and olive oil dressing

All shoved into a couple of warm pitta pockets

AnotherNightAnotherName · 25/04/2024 22:14

Cucumber, apple, raisins, goats cheese, avocado, roasted sweet potato cubes, roasted aubergine cubes, iceberg lettuce, tomato, grated carrot, raw brocolli, spring onion. Olive oil.

Everything must be chopped very small including the lettuce (1-2cm). Amazing.

Silkymum · 25/04/2024 22:17

My two favourites

Green leaves of some kind, sliced peppers, a bit of red onion, baby tomatoes, prawns, Marie Rose sauce and sometimes some grated carrot. Either I add in half a tin of sweet corn and some cooked macaroni pasta, or I have it without but on cracker bread.

Green leaves of some kind, peppers, cucumber, spring onion, cut up sugarsnaps, seafood sticks cut into small pieces, sriracha, and sometimes some avocado.

Otherwise I have a Caesar salad, but with toasted seeds instead of croutons, or a greek salad with plenty of feta and olives.

timetogetlost · 25/04/2024 22:19

I live being an adult and only eating your favourite things. Every day for work I make a salad of

Baby plum tomatoes
Cucumber
Olives
Pickled cabbage
A boiled egg
Houmous
Grated carrot
Sunflower seeds
Cooked lentils or cooked green veg

It is very protein heavy on purpose.

SirenSays · 25/04/2024 22:23

Chicken or prawns
Napa cabbage
Red onion
Peppers
Cucumbers
Carrot
Chilli
Mint
Cilantro
Roasted peanuts
And a dressing made with sugar, fish sauce, lime juice, vinegar, water, chilli, and garlic.

thaegumathteth · 25/04/2024 22:27

Beetroot
Goats cheese
Spinach
Cucumber
Tomatoes (cherry)
Spring onions or red onions
Sometimes croutons
Pomegranate seeds
Lemon juice
Salt
Boiled egg

LandArt · 25/04/2024 22:30

Mostly pine nuts. Everything is improved by pine nuts.

Elsewhere123 · 25/04/2024 22:33

Tomatoes can be tasteless, I add a little soy sauce, sugar, salt, pepper, vinegar/ lemon, sprinkling of msg. Great improvement or just cook them with some balsamic glaze and eat cold.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 25/04/2024 22:33

Love salad, it’s my favourite meal

lettuce (florette)
posh cherry toms
cucumber
pepper
pickled red cabbage
some sort of protein
dressing- currently got a thousand island one

sometimes I add a quinoa or other additional bits

simple and delicious. I eat it every day.

Noyok · 25/04/2024 22:33

Mixed leaves,,
Felafels
Tomatoes
parsley
Feta cheese
satay sticks
coleslaw
Croutons
Salt and garlic pepper

Curtainconundrum · 25/04/2024 22:35

I just had chickpeas roasted in cumin and smoked paprika with a bit of olive oil, fried onion, chopped red cabbage, pepper, cucumber, cherry tomatoes, loads of parsley and a mustardy dressing. It would have been nice with feta cheese if I'd had some.

Curtainconundrum · 25/04/2024 22:36

And a dressing of tahini, lemon juice, olive oil, salt and some water blitzed with loads of parsley perks up the most boring salad veg.

Mindovermatter247 · 25/04/2024 22:37

Lettuce
sweetcorn
grated carrot
red onion
pepper
mushroom
beetroot
red cabbage
I usually have it with chicken thighs and pizza express dressing….

Pocketfullofdogtreats · 25/04/2024 22:37

Beetroot
Courgette (raw)
A pepper
Cucumber
Carrot
Salad leaves
Pomegranate
Tahini
Dollop of hummus
Sunflower seeds
Seaweed flakes

ScubaDivingSpiderMonkey · 25/04/2024 22:37

I love American chopped salads rather than bowls of leaves with some bits of tomatoes etc. in it

The latest one was:
roast chicken
pecan nuts
grapes
celery
broccoli
tarragon
scallion
buttermilk dressing

Whylurkwhenicanjoinin · 25/04/2024 22:38

I have a salad every day, mostly the same, i love it

Crab sticks (i know, cheap tho) or chicken
Iceberg lettuce
Baby spinach
The nicest tomatoes i can afford
Cucumber
Red onion
Sometimes celery chopped small
Pitted olives
Beetroot
Splodge of Hellmans light

Will put pine nuts on the shopping list

cheapskatemum · 25/04/2024 22:38

Absolutely everything I have in the house/fridge that could conceivably go in a salad. I am partial to grapes, sweetcorn & chunkily grated carrots to sweeten it naturally. Seeds & nuts to give it some crunch. I'm not a fan of salad dressings, but do like mayonnaise.

SgtBilko · 25/04/2024 22:39

Red cabbage
Red onion
Grated carrot
Apple
Radish
Sultanas
Pomegranate syrup
Olive Oil
Flat leaf parsley
