Regretting fertility reading from a psychic (I’m an idiot)

OfftoNYC · 18/03/2024 09:33

Hi lovely MN,

Im prepared for a roasting here and being told I’m stupid but I’m really anxious and need some sense knocked into me!

I had a miscarriage back in December and it was traumatic. I was fragile so had a ‘psychic’ reading with a well known psychic about my fertility. I am massively regretting this!

I was told it would take a long time to have a baby (few years) and that there are issues with my womb lining and hormones. Doctors will need to look at you and I must go to a specialist…not sure what specialist.

other stuff was said which I found sort of comforting at the time like you will have a baby boy and it will happen when it’s meant to be.

Fast forward to the start of March and I conceived and now just over 4 weeks pregnant.

i am so worried and I can’t shake the horrible feeling that my womb lining isn’t right for the baby and I’ll have another mc. On top of this I haven’t seen any specialists because we fell pregnant again the first time we tried.

The psychic has amazing reviews, has been on tv however fertility readings are of course for the vulnerable.

I am embarrassed but cannot stop worrying because of what she said 😓

please knock some sense into me! X

Well you don't need a gynaecology degree to know that what the psychic said are all common factors with conceiving.
They know this can be applied to a lot of women, so of course the psychic will say that. They do hot & cold readings and it is all pure bull shit.
Why believe in something that hasn't been scientifically proven? There is not a single fact to back up that they possess these so called "powers".
Ignore & carry on as you are.

ShakeNvacStevens · 18/03/2024 11:06

You're not an idiot, you were just vulnerable after your loss. Have a google for Barnum Statements if you've not heard the term before.

Congratulations on your pregnancy!

Ihearyousingingdownthewire · 18/03/2024 11:12

The thing to regret is wasting money on that charlatan.

PSYCHIC ABILITY DOES NOT EXIST.

Just remember that and try to relax into your pregnancy.

As a very small child I was told I was going to marry someone called Barry. It was the 90s. Needless to say, I did not.

I don’t know why but this is very funny 🤣

thanks everyone for taking the time to reply and sending me reassurance and your own anecdotes.

i see now that I was in such a shit place having had a mc at the end of 2024 I needed anything to hang on to.

absolutely great advice they you only hold on to the 5% of what they say and that can eat you up..

I had a look at the reading and there are things I didn’t focus on but certainly aren’t true and I see how general it is.

They are all liars. Take no notice of the bullshit they spout.

FloofCloud · 18/03/2024 11:32

My BFF saw a medicine man in Dominican Republic about a similar issue, he said she was Barron 😱 and likely never have a baby, she was floored! She did go on to have a baby (no interventions)but it absolutely devastated her as she fully believed in that nonsense
Watch Derrin Brown's stage show about it- he is a great person to make you see how they do it all

ThirtyThrillionThreeTrees · 18/03/2024 11:50

I am also a psychic & I see things being just fine.

I'm not but just wanted to balance out the bullshit for you.

What she said is no more accurate than what I just wrote.

It's all just cold reading and it is extremely easy to.do when people are vulnerable as they leak do much of their emotions.

moreminieggsplease · 18/03/2024 11:57

I get why you went to see her, and why you're now nervous but honestly, it's all so shit. I've attempted to be open minded several times, not yet seen one convincing correct read.

Reviews, even genuine ones need to be taken with a pinch of salt. Confirmation bias - people will believe things (possibly subconsciously) that fit their own preference or narrative and then go "wow, she was spot on".
And the fact she's on TV means naff all. They'll air anything that people will watch. I used to like watching that one from New Jersey with the mad hair but I don't believe she really had any special ability.

Perhaps read up on some of the work Derren Brown has done to show how they do it. They're actually very clever people, but they shouldn't be using their skills this way.

I'm very sorry for your previous loss and wish you every happiness with your pregnancy, OP. Flowers

Psychic readings really are nothing but nonsense - please try and put it out of your mind.

We went on a family day out to Brighton once and, just for a change of pace, DH agreed to have his palm read by a "psychic" lady at a street stall while I and our two young-teen DCs stood politely by and listened to her spiel.

It was 95% generalised nonsense that could have applied to half the population of the UK, and towards the end she assured him she could see "the possibility of another baby" in his future.

She seemed gratified that DH and I exchanged a knowing glance. Clearly she wasn't gifted enough to pick up on the fact that we were both recollecting the vasectomy he'd had ten years earlier...

Psychics are, of course, bullshit but this did make me chuckle a little as isn’t it after 10 years that a small (tiny) percentage of vasectomies reverse themselves as the scar tissue forms a new link?
So… a psychic saying that it was possible, 10 years after a vasectomy… it would have been a little bit funny if that one came true.

Really thought OP, they’re charlatans who pray on the vulnerable for money or they’re seriously mentally unwell.

GameOfJones · 18/03/2024 12:05

I am so sick of these con artists preying on vulnerable people. I would echo PPs and encourage you to look into Derren Brown's explanations of how "psychics" operate/cold reading etc.

It is all bullshit. You have the proof that it is bullshit because you are pregnant right now.

usernother · 18/03/2024 12:25

@OfftoNYC the Derren Brown programme about how psychics tell lies is on YouTube.

BlondiesHaveMoreFun · 18/03/2024 12:25

Me and my DD went to a Psychic night at the local pub. There were 5 "psychics". It was an utter CRINGE fest. Not one psychic got anything right for anyone. And they kept saying phrases like "does that make sense?" and no one ever said yes. Then they would grapple and scramble for anything to make themselves sound credible, but nothing landed for anyone.

MC is first pregnancies are so common. And mostly the next pregnancy is fine. That was my own experience, and my sisters also. I'm sure you will be just fine. Congratulations!!

ErrolTheDragon · 18/03/2024 12:53

One of the funniest examples of the total BS was Richard Dawkins encounter with a 'psychic'. He went along with it politely, solemnly listening to being told there was a message from the other side from his father... I wish I could remember exactly how he gently informed the man that his father was alive and well.Grin

I don't know if the 'psychic' genuinely believed his abilities or if agreeing to be filmed was colossal overconfidence in his methodology but presumably he didn't foresee the outcome!

Bells3032 · 18/03/2024 13:07

I did one. I actually went back and looked at it today after seeing this. Says I'll conceive in July 22 and have a boy. I'm now pregnant. Conceived in October 23 and having a girl.

It's rubbish

BakedBeanAddict · 18/03/2024 13:08

Are their initials TT? My fertility reading was SO inaccurate it’s laughable.

‘I’ve got someone called John coming through - anyone know a John….or Jack…no? Anyone know a Jim, then….?’

’There’s a lovely lady here who passed over and she tells me you’ll be going on holiday this Summer…’

’I’m getting an elderly gentleman come through, he says your washing machine needs replacing…is that right, lovey?’

It’s all a big pile of bolleaux. 💐

OfftoNYC · 18/03/2024 13:12

I found an old video on YouTube of her giving a reading in a building where a crime happened … the comments are 😂lots of locals saying it’s not even in the right building where the crime took place 😂

Congratulations on your pregnancy!!
And remember pregnancy is a BIOLOGICAL process (I know you know this but it bears repeating to yourself!) It has NOTHING to do with superstition, psychic readings, turning anti clockwise three times after sex. Your body is pregnant because it is biologically able to be. Congratulations and trust your body's natural, biological ability to be able to take care of you and new tiny bean. x

Station11 · 18/03/2024 13:41

It’s interesting but psychics are bound by consumer regulations

I’d wait until you have your child and ask for your money back!

@Theredfoxfliesatmidnight this is really helpful. I know it’s stating the obvious but I need to hear it!

@Station11 that’s super interesting. I’ll take a look. I get the feeling that if I asked for my money back (quite rightly) she would be really shitty. I bet she wouldn’t be very nice
