So where on earth do you start when you want to buy a bed?

Facebook marketplace is full of shit

Dreams were good when we bought one

You start with a budget and then work around that. It's not difficult.

Mine is from Dunelm. Emma mattress

It's a weird thread OP because you've asked where to start buying a bed and stated that Facebook was your first port of call (odd to begin with). Then when someone suggested bed shops you asked for examples as though you'd never heard of such a thing. Unlikely given that they are on every retail park, advertised on the tv, hundreds of retail websites, bed and bedroom furniture departments in dept stores. They aren't hard to find items.

Agree, marketplace now full of dodgy companies, however I've found if you filter condition to used and set a budget higher than free it gets rid of most of them.

My actual bed came from Furniture Village but I had the money at the time and quite specific requirements for an ottoman that didn't squeak. The kids beds came off Amazon and eBay, not as sturdy but do for teenagers.

For mattress I'd very much recommend the IKEA valevag, we all have them here, cracking mattress at a decent price and it's rolled so fits in the car easily.

Because second-hand is cheaper and more environmentally friendly?

Mine's a reconditioned antique - environmentally OK but not cheap! Was my divorce present to self.

OP, Ikea mattresses are totally reliable ime, and affordable.

Clearly people do has there are 1000’s of them on there.

OP - it is a mine field I agree. We’re about to start looking for my DD.

We bought a basic divan base from a random bed shop and then we got a refurbished Simba from their eBay store. It came all sealed and boxed etc. Definitely wouldn’t know it was a refurb. They had an offer on at 50% off the refurb price it was an absolute bargain.

Definitely somewhere where you can try one, beds are such a personal thing, I like my mattress extra firm like concrete and some people love them squishy! I'd go and have a lie down on a few
