The Oscars tonight who else is watching?

ITV for the first time at 2230. I hope it’s a good one. I still miss Joan live on the red carpet☹️. I’m just watching Poor Thing then I think I’ve seen most of the nominations. I hope Oppenheimer doesn’t sweep the board. I liked it but I don’t like it when one film dominates.

Good choice, this film really surprised me because I thought I'd get bored but was absorbed by it. Bet Sandra Huller won't win anything even though she was in two of the most astonishing films of the year. Boo.

France really buggered up by not nominating Anatomy of a fall for Best Foreign Film - it would have in with a good shot

Datgal · 10/03/2024 23:50

Can't wait to see some of the films mentioned. Not seen that many this year.

"Algebra's like shit music".

Right you are then.

Zone of Interest should win best adapted screenplay, but I don't think it will.

Ramalangadingdong · 10/03/2024 23:52

Is there a novel "Barbie" by Mattel?

Datgal · 10/03/2024 23:52

Debating whether to stay up and watch it all...

HauntedBungalow · 10/03/2024 23:53

See I thought Zone of Interest didn't adapt the novel - it kind of riffed on it and wasn't anything like it (although was incredible). I'm glad American Fiction won. It's a literary leaning work.

LOL yeah I wondered about that. If it's about adapting an idea then that's any bloody film isn't it. Chancers.

It's a bit boring.

And there aren't many of us on this thread, which would make it more bearable.

Yes, I am very happy that American Fiction won.

HauntedBungalow · 10/03/2024 23:56

God this is dreary.

Dostadning · 10/03/2024 23:56

I'd rather I'm just Ken won tbh!

burnoutbabe · 10/03/2024 23:57

I shall stay up

I want to see Ryan singing!

And I have watched all the 10 best picture nominees ((8 in last month) so feel I am invested.

It's a really good year for films. I would say that all the nominated films have some kind of brilliance about them - even the films that I didn't like so much.

If I was a member of the academy and had a vote I think my vote would be political because the films are so close in quality - so I would vote for a female director.

Dostadning · 10/03/2024 23:59

A bit breathy but okay. Awful outfit, She won in 2022 for No time to die so I'd like to see someone else get one.

BlossomBlossomBlossom · 10/03/2024 23:59

S&B would have had Billie Eilish in a ‘nice wrap dress’ …

HauntedBungalow · 10/03/2024 23:59

Carey Mulligan looked beautiful in the audience there.

Was she nominated for Maestro? I can't remember. I thought it was a pretty awful film but she was amazing in it.

LadyNijo · 11/03/2024 00:00

I’m laughing at the ‘conference centre in Nuneaton’ corridor — that’s exactly what it looks like. I always forget how boring the Oscars are.

I’m assuming Emily Blunt’s Y-front dress is ironic, especially when you add in the raised shoulder straps that look like the shoulder tabs on those cut out paper doll clothes?

Who is the woman in black with the blonde bob who was really appreciating Billie Eilish?

The ‘mum from Home Alone’ actress looks cool.

God this is dreary.

I blame Will Smith. They've probably doubled down to make sure no crazy actors go rogue. Hence the dreariness.

Yeah, she's nominated. I really hope she doesn't win.

Nah. I'm not saying that. I just wish she didn't deliberately do outsize. I did the same at her age. It's a look. I just think she'd have rocked a tux.

Maggiethecat · 11/03/2024 00:03

Fantastic win for American Fiction!

Datgal · 11/03/2024 00:03

It's great seeing who's giving the awards. Love Michael Keaton.
