How do you wind down - without looking at rubbish on your phone?

My mind is often frazzled at the end of the day. Or I have 5 - 15 minutes between stuff. I always end up on my phone because my mind is too stressed or unfocused.

What do you do in these situations?

I sew.

99victoria · 05/03/2024 10:41

Read a book? 😁

Mumoftwo1312 · 05/03/2024 10:42

Still counts as rubbish on my phone but - I play board games on boardgamearena. I'm really good at some of them and it's wholesome fun, and never depressing like reading the news or SM sometimes is

I'm trying to be more mindful of this as I seem to keep ending up on here!

I dog walk and listen to an audio book or podcast.
I have a lot of organising around the house to do so I try to jump up and do that for 10 mins if I find myself scrolling.
I watch a lot of series (Walter Presents)
I'm attempting to read a pile of books I've had for years.
Gardening if it's sunny (weed pulling can make it look tidy fast)
Cooking and prepping things - I like to batch cook and find filling the freezer satisfying.

I'm apparently pretty boring reading the above! I do also do SUP, hiking and holidays but not so easy to just "do" Grin

Read a book.

NotestoSelf · 05/03/2024 10:52

I read on my kindle or meditate. Or go outdoors, if its possible.

teacrumpetsandcake · 05/03/2024 10:53

Well, sometimes, I scroll on my phone.

Sometimes it's OK to scroll on your phone and it doesn't always need to be demonised. You're just unwinding and taking a few minutes. It's fine.

If you're worried you're spending too long doing it, just try something else like reading a book, watching some TV, going for a walk, drawing, having a chat with someone, etc.

taxguru · 05/03/2024 10:54

Read a book or listen to music.

Curlyshabtree · 05/03/2024 10:54

I do embroidery while listening to music.

stayathomer · 05/03/2024 10:57

Read a book, go out with the dog, write, colour but more likely watch tv🙈 I am getting better at puny phone away and am hugely feeling it BUT I have to tackle the Netflix thing😅

Toomuch44 · 05/03/2024 11:09

I read most evenings, but enjoy a good drama on tv. Sometimes I have a jigsaw (which I find additive) or puzzle book on the go.

Bjorkdidit · 05/03/2024 11:09

I've not actually read them yet, but I took out a couple of discount magazine subscriptions for 'something to do' that could be picked up and put down and wasn't screen based - they were £6 for 6 issues and you do have to cancel if you don't want to continue paying. I got Red and Good Housekeeping, which doesn't actually seem to be about housekeeping, more health, activity, food, travel, books, finance etc.

Plus maybe puzzles. I get the iweekend newspaper, which as well as having a good overview of the news of the week has a big puzzle section.

StrictlyAFemaleFemale · 05/03/2024 11:10

Listen to podcasts on my phone.

OohMrDarcy · 05/03/2024 11:17

Walk the dog - I never feel like it if it is dark / wet, but he looks at me all keen, and I drag myself up thinking I'll do a short walk, then by the time I'm 5 mins in, I've already doubled the length in my head - its really great for getting me out of myself and properly decompressing. If its quiet out I'll listen to music / audiobook etc too.

I read every night before bed too...

in between, there is definite doomscrolling but that also helps me to decompress when needed

Read, listen to music, take a short walk, do something constructive in the garden or just sit on the patio listening to the birds.

KThnxBye · 05/03/2024 13:07

Go for a walk, do some of a jigsaw, play the piano, do short HIIT or stretches. Read to the DC, read to myself, do the crossword.
