How do you wind down - without looking at rubbish on your phone?

My mind is often frazzled at the end of the day. Or I have 5 - 15 minutes between stuff. I always end up on my phone because my mind is too stressed or unfocused.

What do you do in these situations?

I wonder if this is what you need OP. At fatigue clinic I learned to "zone out" for 10 mins at a time and I'm meant to do it multiple times a day to manage symptoms. Basically I think they are wanting you to "practice mindfulness" but rather than listening to a guided mediation or something (which I find extremely tedious) I just put on a rainforest soundtrack and zone out to it. Sounds a bit odd but with a bit of practice it just clicks in.

Zentangles are only little squares the size of a post-it, just paper and one pen so easy to pick up and put down. It's just doodling with a little bit of framework around it.

I like this idea, thank you!

Another lovely garden based activity would be to watch the bees. Some bushes can have loads on them if you start looking and its really relaxing watching them potter around doing bee things.

I vape weed while watching short films on Mubi.

For 5-15 minute breaks during the day I play games with my cat.

Play with the dogs
Clean
Meditate
Watch TV
Crosswords

But mostly I'm on my phone lol

Puzzle games: Wordable, Quordable and Octoable. Then, panagram and spelling be. Though they are still on my phone, of course 😏

Love this thread! I am like you OP and want to break the habit. I’ve recently read ‘how to break up with your phone and start tomorrow! I think a bit of scrolling is fine but I know that I use it to avoid unwanted emotions like boredom, overwhelm or irritation. It works temporarily to settle me but doesn’t deal with the underlying feeling and I end up scrolling for ages. Deleted Twitter which has already helped. I used to knit so am going to try and get back into that, and sewing. I also meditate and notice that when I feel like this, I don’t want to - usually because I don’t really want to face whatever is in my mind! But usually facing it works better than reinforcing this habit of avoidance.
