What do you think of when you hear the name Ralph? Was chatting with my partner today and i said that women of around my age (50) would probably answer with the name of a book. Just wondered if i was right!

I have never heard of this before! My son is called Ralph 😵‍💫

Me too! I have a 7 year old Ralph and I’m not aware of any of these references, except the US vomit one. I just liked the sound of it and it matched well with his brother’s old fashioned name

Yep! Can never hear the name Ralph without thinking of Forever!

Same, and I never even read the whole book! Just flicked through it as a teenager when my older sister was reading it.

I took.it to read on a really dull afternoon at my parents' friends' house. I had a secondhand copy and of course it fell open at Ralph's page when my dad's friend picked it up to look at what I was reading. The adults then passed it around the room reading all about Ralph whilst I died in the corner.

I am not alone in my trauma. I want to buy you a drink Grin

Forever! (I'm 48)

We had triple art on Wednesday afternoon and read it whilst working on a group project.

I vividly remember the strange bit with the aftershave 😬

I remember the rug! Did they have sex on the floor? Or did the rug go on the bed? Hazy yet seminal (pun intended!) memories.
And yes I too will never hear the name Ralph without thinking of willies.

The actor Ralph Fiennes. I'm 53, never heard of the book. I know of the actor Ralf Little, different spelling obviously.

RosesAndHellebores · 12/02/2024 00:37

I'm 63. My best friend's dad.

cariadlet · 12/02/2024 00:45

I'm in my 50s. My first thought was The Simpsons.

When you said book, I had to rack my brains for a few minutes but then came up with Lord of the Flies.

This is maybe a local Scottish thiny in my area thing - Ralph is used to describe the sound of someone violently vomiting, generally after drinking too much!
