Are you expecting a bonus this year in work?

I've started a new job at the beginning of the year and for the first time ever there is supposed to be a bonus however company performance has declined so I'm not sure if I'll get anything. I was really hoping I'd get % of my salary but now I'm wondering if we'll get anything at all.

How does it work at your work?

Laughable bonus and now being tied into an impossible performance regime, introduced in a hurry and now having to be changed as it is not working and has caused real issues with staff moral, so made a poor situation far worse! I am not a fan of bonuses and would rather they paid staff properly, as too often a bonus is used as a carrot to try to achieve something that really relates to poor management within an organisation.

Civil Service, and not a high grade one.

What's a bonus?

Full time care assistant- no bonus and working Xmas eve, Xmas day and new years

bemwenm · 14/12/2023 19:54

Financial services-yes about £800-
1000, plus an extra days holiday for Xmas, a hamper in the post and reduced working hours between Xmas and new year if you decide to work those days and not take leave.

Ambi · 16/12/2023 07:16

I got my Xmas bonus in Nov, this year it was £1500. It was £250 when I started there 7 yrs ago. We finish on 19th Dec until Jan.

I work for Local Government so never get a bonus- however we have had a little pay rise which has been backdated to April and paid in December pay. So it's like a little bonus! Look for the positives lol 😂

DustyLee123 · 16/12/2023 08:03

We usually get a small hamper or a voucher, not sure if we’re getting anything this year though.

Whenwasthis · 16/12/2023 08:10

My last bonus was at Kwik Save in 1994 and it was £7. This was about 5 hours wages so not too bad for a Saturday job.

TravellingSpoon · 16/12/2023 08:14

I work for a Local Authority, and we got £10 for ourselves when taking a group of our service users out for a meal. We had to go and the meals were £18, so I had to pay the rest.

adventadvent · 16/12/2023 08:19

We get bonus up to 4 times a year, dependable on if we hit targets etc
It's a % of our quarterly salary.
Not had the last 2 quarters and looking unlikely this time as well

Pipistrellus · 10/12/2023 20:15

We get smaller quarterly bonuses based on company and team performance. £ amount, not linked to pay grade. It's apparently meant to be more motivating but I keep very little after the income and NI taxes and UC reduction.

I’m the same I think it works out as about 23p in the £1 actually reaches you, I pay student loan as well. I have set it up with payroll that over my base rate. 90% of my wage goes to pension.

Do you at least get double time I did when working in a care home.

Cwtshcwtsh · 16/12/2023 08:34

Only if I pay myself one. I’m self employed 😂 oh - and not this year as I was on maternity for most of it.

My partner got a fair wedge in similar circumstances. Much more than my NHS pay rise back pay and lump sum back in summer once it was taxed. He is v happy
