Are you expecting a bonus this year in work?

I've started a new job at the beginning of the year and for the first time ever there is supposed to be a bonus however company performance has declined so I'm not sure if I'll get anything. I was really hoping I'd get % of my salary but now I'm wondering if we'll get anything at all.

How does it work at your work?

Same here @Pipistrellus by the time our recently announced bonus has been reduced due to me being part time, again for tax and NI and again for UC reduction I will probably be able to afford a Christmas special at the on-site Starbucks.

mindutopia · 10/12/2023 22:25

I’ve never had a bonus in my life. 😂 I’m in academia. We go get 5 extra days off at Christmas though.

I do know one out of touch idiot who complains loudly to anyone who will listen when his Christmas bonus drops out of six figures. We don’t even get hot food at the work Christmas party, just sad sandwiches and Lidl juices like a disappointing child’s party.

DoThePropeller · 10/12/2023 22:29

We normally get a pretty good bonus but this year we probably won’t as it’s been a very flat year in terms of growth.

We have an actual bonus scheme with the rules on how to achieve it, it can change slightly each year but it's 10% based on two sections based on company performance
I've only had the full bonus once, I'm doubtful in anything this year
Like others have said, if you haven't worked a full year not everyone gets the bonus

fussychica · 11/12/2023 08:21

Well as a pensioner I got a £10 Xmas bonus from the government, I now need to work out what to spend it on.

comedycentral · 11/12/2023 08:22

No, I'm in the wrong industry 😄

Bireadwhatiread · 11/12/2023 08:24

No bonuses here no.

MooseAndSquirrelLoveFlannel · 11/12/2023 08:25

Ours is performance based, either 2%, 5% or 7% (or nothing).

I got 5% this year, after working my arse off and after taxes etc got about £900 which honestly didn't feel worth it after the effort I put in.

So I'm not bothering to try to get it next year.

Xmas- we get a £30 amazon voucher instead of an Xmas party. Which honestly, I prefer the voucher!

CharlotteStreetW1 · 11/12/2023 08:32

We normally get something but the partners have been "joking" about there being no bonuses this year. At least I hope they're joking. We shall see...

gotomomo · 11/12/2023 08:36

Dp gets 10% of profits, but year runs to April. Not looking good this year (unlike covid years, bumper years due to industry) costs up, margins squeezed, customers running stock down (business to business)

merrymerrychristmasall · 11/12/2023 08:42

Yes, as a % of base salary as well as annual company performance. And other options for compensation if they are more appealing.

Reading these, there are So many deserving sectors that should be higher incentivised and better compensated given the essential nature of the work they do.

AngelAurora · 11/12/2023 08:47

Nurses get nothing so no

TeacherPlease · 11/12/2023 08:49

I got 11%. Should’ve been 20% if we’d hit performance targets but we didn’t.

ItAintGonnaGoDownEasyIfItAintCheezy · 11/12/2023 08:52

We got two bottles of naice wine last year. Obviously those that don't drink for whatever reason religious or otherwise, got something different.

idontlikealdi · 11/12/2023 09:12

No and no pay rise either. Have been TUPE'd as part of a sale and my salary is too high apparently.

JockTamsonsBairns · 11/12/2023 09:19

Full time care worker. I got a £20 Tesco voucher.

Startingagainandagain · 11/12/2023 09:33

Last year we got a tiny cost of living additional payment (£100) in our December salary. Nothing has been said this year...

GMsAWinner · 11/12/2023 10:53

DH gets a 'high performance' bonus every year, usually around £750-800. He's work at the same place 40 years and has had about six years when he hasn't had a payrise, but still gets his bonus.

Found out today. 50% less than last year. I guess they do it on overall company success (or not). One dept has had a bad year, our dept has been frantic and I had to act up when my boss was off sick or three weeks. I've worked my bloody socks off this year and frankly I'm feeling a bit deflated.

In truth I am grateful for anything really but...

MigGirl · 14/12/2023 18:34

Ha education so no bonus. But I am finally getting my back pay, payrise that we should have had in April so that will be nice 😁

NiceUnusualDifferent · 14/12/2023 18:42

I get one each month based on performance. £500 to £800 depending. Took the job without knowing this and was happy with the salary so definitely a bonus.

Oldraver · 14/12/2023 18:43

We've had a £100 John Lewis voucher

It will but my cheese (and other bits)

poorbuthappy · 14/12/2023 18:45

I got £5.5k after tax last year.
Changed jobs and got an equivalent pay rise because I knew I wouldn't do it again for a variety of reasons. (Company related not me 😂)
Got a surprise John Lewis gift card which was lovely!

CatOnTheLap · 14/12/2023 18:47

Celebrationsnakes · 10/12/2023 21:22

I get one every year. Usually around £4k.

Any vacancies at your place? 😀

Alconleigh · 14/12/2023 18:50

Yes. 2 months salary.
