I've just watched it (day off work and it's raining out, don't judge me) and would be interested to hear other people's opinions.

He‘s so self absorbed. I agree that the woe is me books and documentaries by celebrities is getting extremely tedious.

MaliciaKeys · 08/11/2023 19:22

I thought he and Guy Chambers had reconciled? Maybe I dreamt that.
And who did the baby belong to?

fortnumsfinest · 08/11/2023 19:56

I'm watching it just now. I can't say I'm enjoying it, why would he want the whole documentary to be filmed when he's in his pants and why is the first question is daughter asks is who he hated most in TT. All very strange

He’s throwing everyone under the bus. Gary, Guy , Geri for tipping off the paps when they were dating.
he’s quite unlikeable really and seems a massive pita.
I also thought he had reconciled with guy recently. Maybe it fell apart again quickly.

MaliciaKeys · 08/11/2023 20:22

@sashagabadon I think Geri probably did call the paps on them, how else would they have known where they were? She's not exactly publicity shy, even now.

Not watched it but he was and still is such a smug, self absorbed, muppet.

Fame was a drug, which was great when at the peak, but then it faded and the adoration waned and he couldn't deal with it so he found other drugs to get the high.

He's always thought he was far more talented and attractive than he actually is.

He always seemed jealous that Gary had the actual talent whilst Gary always seemed jealous that robbie got all the attention.

He always looks spaced out when he's singing, like on strictly a few weeks ago.

Pewpewbarneymcgrew · 08/11/2023 20:26

The eldest daughter’s face has been seen before as she was a bridesmaid for Princess Eugenie

MaliciaKeys · 08/11/2023 20:32

@Pewpewbarneymcgrew I thought Teddy was a bridesmaid for Harry and Meghan?

OP posts:
fortnumsfinest · 08/11/2023 20:34

No she was Princess Eugenie's bridesmaid

MaliciaKeys · 08/11/2023 20:40

I didn't realise Robbie and Ayda socialised with Eugenie and that lot Grin I remember seeing a photo of her in a bridesmaid's dress, but I couldn't recall which royal wedding it was.

I always thought he was carefree and happy-go-lucky

I'm a bit surprised at that, I thought his demons had been covered at length quite a lot.

I was just too young for the Take That hype, but loved Robbie as a teenage girl.

DH likes him, he wants to watch this. I'll report back afterwards but I've read his biographies so I presume there's not much new.

sashagabadon · 08/11/2023 20:41

Yes completely agree she probably did. But why mention it at all if she is a friend. And he said he didn’t believe it but clearly he did then and still does now.

MaliciaKeys · 08/11/2023 20:55

@YouveGotAFastCar I knew he'd had a problem with drink and drugs but I didn't realise his mental state was so precarious, and I thought he'd been clean since his first stay in rehab. I must admit, I haven't followed his career all that closely.

As a recovering alcoholic myself, I'm sympathetic to his struggles but he's so utterly, utterly self-absorbed. Fame is perhaps the worst thing that could have happened to him.

Interesting too that they don't cover the 1000s of women he shagged and dumped all up and down the UK. I think we all know someone who has shagged him.

Really?? I hadn't heard that! I've never found him remotely attractive - his arms are strangely short!

I remember Noel Gallagher saying that he'd tried to hang around with the Oasis crowd when he left Take That, but after a while they couldn't really take it any more, as he always had to be the centre of attention.

I won't be watching, especially as a PP said he's in his underpants lol!

Irritatedandfedup · 08/11/2023 21:01

I enjoyed the wham documentary so much more. George Michael and Andrew Ridgley were so likeable. Robbie is so self absorbed…he must be a nightmare to deal with!

And the blokes

Discointhekitchen · 08/11/2023 21:07

Haven’t seen this doc yet, but I remember seeing a clip of him ‘performing’ while his wife was in labour in hospital. She looked really pissed off! He also looks like a complete self absorbed, attention seeking twat.

So obviously, I’ll be watching every frame of this docco! 🤗

franke · 08/11/2023 21:12

@DustSalad And beyond the UK (with the shagging). My thought too.

I'm two episodes in. He comes across as articulate but I don't really get the point of this doc. Yes it's an interesting study of a mental breakdown, but how could it have been avoided? What does he want us to consider?

And like Beckham, I get the impression that he thinks this all happened inspite of him. Beckham came across as a weak man, Williams not so much. But there's a similar dodging of culpability - he was quite brutal with Geri Halliwell at the time and as pp said, there was copious shagging of groupies. Weren't they procured for him from the audience?

Meh.

MaliciaKeys · 08/11/2023 21:33

Ugh, did he really have someone procuring groupies from the audience?

I remember he used to get a girl up on stage and snog her during She's The One. I don't think he'd get away with that now.

I am only as far in the first episode as him arriving in Jamaica, but in answer to questions about his parents, Rob’s dad was a comedian who had been on Opportunity Knocks(I think) which was like BGT in the 70s. I think he ended up touring Butlins with him in the school holidays.
I loved him and TT. Looks like fame is a destructive business for all of them, sadly.

seeyounexttuesluv · 08/11/2023 21:42

I binged it I'm sad to say . Very self indulgent and depressing..... and for god's sake man put some effing trousers on!

To summarise: A 3-parter about a narcissist watching old videos of himself whilst talking about himself.

Oh I remember seeing this too!!!!! Grim. Agree with every word you say.
Personally i think he's an arrogant prat.

WinteryWonderland · 08/11/2023 21:45

I never liked him. I watched it today to see if the documentary would change my mind, but I still find him incredibly annoying/narcissistic/cocky.
One of the things I always disliked most, is how he always thought it was really funny and clever to constantly swear at his concerts etc, saying the F word repeatedly like he's 12 years old, plus always offering to fight Liam Gallagher. He just makes me cringe.
He was always jealous of Gary Barlow's talent and admits this in the documentary. I just find him pretty tragic and I think he struggles now he's a 'has been'.
Of course this is just my own personal opinion- I know many thought he was amazing!

WinteryWonderland · 08/11/2023 21:48

Oh, and how he treated Guy Chambers after they had been so close showed his true colours. Someone who he said was like a brother, yet dropped him like a hot potato when the relationship wasn't all going his way.
I thought that showed the true core of the man. Selfish and self absorbed. Plus filmed in his pants. Have some decorum, you're a grown man with children for Christs sake. No idea what his wife sees in him.
