white kitchen cabinets views please... " a brave choice?"

Planning our new kitchen. Modern style , no cupboard handles, sleek, its quite a large kitchen, getting rid of the pain in the arse dumping ground island and having a penisular unit and table and chairs instead . We had planned matt white cabinets with mid grey quartz worktops but im having doubts now and planner just called it a " brave choice"! He feels the white flat door cabinets look too clinical ( think hospital or vets) and will show every crumb or streak and need lots of cleaning to keep looking good.

interested in views please of pure crisp white cabinets pros or cons pls.

if you chose this option some time ago are you still happy with choice/

We need a light colour ( replacing a dark wood effect and its a north west facing room with only good natural light in mornings) . I was keen to avoid grey, ivory or cashmere... but he has suggested a platinum colour that looks quite nice... and he says will look alot better.

Kitchen are hard arn't they and its so much money I just wanted to ask the wise ones on mumsnets views! . Thanks in advance. All opinions welcome.

We're going for handleless white gloss in our new kitchen...it is North facing and while I'm tempted by some of the navy kitchens I really need something which will lighten the room. My sister has white gloss and they look clean. No smears or fingerprints. I'm not sure about matt though. As for clinical...to be honest, some people like that look

We have gloss white handleless too, been in 7 years, still looks good and white really doesn’t show the dirt until you start looking! Wipes down easily, very happy with it. Hate the worktops though, took ages choosing them, nothing matches the quality of our previous ones from 1989 which were bomb proof. New ones are from Nobilia, don’t rate it.

I'd love white cabinets! Recently bought 3 year old house, kitchen cabinets are light grey for wall, very dark grey base. It sucks all the light out of the room, but can't justify the expense of having it repainted just at present. You can add colour to a white kitchen in many ways.

I've got a white gloss kitchen. Handleless doors. Love it. It's been in years. Was told to never use bleach on it and it still looks brand new. Damp cloth wipes off any fingerprints and any time I want a splash of colour, I get some flowers.

Prior to this, I had a white shaker style kitchen and that was a pain to clean. Matt cupboards with grooves that were forever getting dust or dirt in them. Definitely go for smooth cupboard doors.

We have the same history with kitchens! Our is white matt, handle less and I haven't experienced any problems with marks. We have a sparkly grey Quartz worktop and upstands but do have a coloured wall - a pale one though. It looks sleek and clean, I love it

That's so weird I would have said white was the safe choice not the brave choice.

We have white gloss, inherited with the house. It's now 14 years old and still looks quite good. We are very hard on it (3 young kids) so would like to replace it at some point but generally it's absolutely fine and perfectly clean. We have wooden worktops which look quite warm and we have coloured walls and a black slate floor.

It isn't what I would have chosen but having had it I like it and if doesnt really date.

Copper goes well with white kitchen cabinets .

I have white matt cupboards with handles, so can't comment on the dirt/marks side of things as it wouldn't be a fair comparison (other than to say my cupboards never look dirty and only need a quick wipe down every now and then).

It doesn't look clinical at all. I have sage green wall tiles, a wood effect laminate worktop and light grey floor tiles.

My friend has a matt white kitchen you can see every single greasy finger mark, it’s awful and seems to be ingrained on the surface, at least with a gloss coating it’s easy to buff up.

Yes, this is what I've seen also @Makemydaypunk and if the doors don't have handles, I think it would be a nightmare.

Toddlerteaplease · 07/11/2023 21:05

I've got Matt ones. I like them. But they show every mark.

Lozza70 · 07/11/2023 21:24

Gloss white kitchen here with small Matt silver handles. Never felt clinical. We have a dark granite top with minimal sparkle and a warm dark grey paint on the walls and a dark floor. Find the gloss easy to keep clean with a wipe and micro cloth.

LadyChilli · 07/11/2023 21:41

One pro of white cabinets is if you don't have integrated appliances, the cheaper white ones look less incongruous beside white doors. I hate seeing beautiful wooden or dark coloured doors then a big ugly white washing machine in the middle.

ABetterBitOfButter · 07/11/2023 21:50

White gloss kitchen in my house. Easy to keep clean with a dab of Cif and a quick rub with a cloth. We have grey walls, oak furniture/worktop and masses of green plants. It's not at all clinical.

We put gloss white cabinets in our old house, I absolutely loved them (and my DC were 2&3 at the time). Floor was blue grey tiles and a light green on the walls. I still miss it!

Our new house has a white kitchen floor(!) and white worktops. It's much harder work than the white cupboards were!
