I’ve messed up

Ghostfacephonecall · 02/11/2023 16:56

I have used natural family planning as contraception for 3/4 years and it works well for me. I had unprotected sex last night. I thought I was in the clear but I have been so busy that more time has passed since my period than I thought. I’m right in the fertile window.

I have been frantically searching for solutions, the sexual health clinics are 25 and under. I’m 27. I don’t have a GP right now, that’s a whole other story. I don’t know what to do. I’m severely depressed right now which is making it harder to think straight. I am ND and for lots of reasons I don’t want a child. I had an abortion years ago and I can’t go through that again. I just need a handhold while I figure out what I can do. I have about 50 hours left to get my hands on the emergency contraceptive pill.

If you can, I'd go to my nearest open pharmacy (supermarket?) And ask what to do. They're likely to be able to signpost you.

Or just ring them

There's plenty the OP can do this evening rather than leaving it till tomorrow.

UpUpUpU · 02/11/2023 18:08

Get your partner to pay for it??

GettingColdFeet · 02/11/2023 18:37

The NHS website has out of hours pharmacy information. I made an appointment via the website and then just headed over. I'd happily drive a friend to a pharmacy so give someone a call if it's tricky to get there.

If you don't want to risk pregancy then a £30 emergency contraception fund is probably a good step to work towards having. Someone else mentioned the coil, this might also be something to consider as an alternative to pill/injection/implant contraception.

GettingColdFeet · 02/11/2023 18:39

Your partner is also complicit in this and needs to help you get emergency contraception.

Always one. I was on ‘proper birth control’ for 8 years and I had awful side effects. This method works for me without having to put hormones in my body. I lost track of the actual days because I have been over worked, barely slept which has burnt me out and made life pretty unbearable as all my ASD triggers have been amplified. I’ve just been trying to get through the day without hurting myself but thanks for your judgement

This is stupid. You should be using condoms. Borrow £30 and get the morning after pill - which is hormones in case you hadn’t realised.

AnneLovesGilbert · 02/11/2023 18:45

This method doesn’t work for you. Hope you find a way to get the MAP, which is obviously hormones. Start getting whomever you’re sleeping with to use condoms. They’re hormone free, widely available and don’t rely on getting enough sleep.

Ghostfacephonecall · 02/11/2023 17:03

I forgot the literal most important detail from my OP because I’m all over the place I’m sorry!

I can’t afford it, I work term time and I am paid weekly. So I haven’t worked this week and I won’t be paid again until the end of next week. But all of the free places are out of my age bracket.

I'm going to guess it wasn't an immaculate conception?

Why is sorting this out completely down to you?

strawberry12345 · 02/11/2023 18:48

Why not just lie about your age?

onetwothreeee · 02/11/2023 18:50

I just thought id add on here (and I'm trying to be helpful) that I also used NFP and ended up pg after having sex on day 6 of my text book "perfect" 28 day cycle. (I was then away from my husband for the next 3 weeks, that was the only time conception was possible)

I genuinely didn't think it could even happen then..... but it did.

So if you really really really dont want to get pg then rethink about which days you are "safe"....

JofraArchersFastestBall · 02/11/2023 18:53

Does your partner want a baby? If not, get them to pay for it.

BocolateChiscuits · 02/11/2023 18:56

Hope you get sorted quickly somehow 🤞

Please ignore some of the rude comments here. I go bonkers on the pill, and as you can only get pregnant 2 days out of your cycle, what you're doing makes complete sense. And it's becoming a more popular option as apps have been released to support it and women grow in awareness of our own cycles.

If I were your friend, and asked I'd help you with money and lifts, no discussion needed - maybe you have someone you can ask?

meganorks · 02/11/2023 19:01

It's not that expensive (less than £20). So if you get paid next week, and for the sake of not having a baby you don't want, can you not get an overdraft or use a credit card and pay it off next week? Or ask to borrow the money, probably from the man involved.

VeridicalVagabond · 02/11/2023 19:03

Literally just go to your nearest pharmacy, I have a 24hr boots pharmacy 20 mins from me who do MAP and I'm quite rural, you can get it for free. Quick consult and they'll give you one.

And if you don't want a baby you need to stop having unprotected sex. Because that's what you're doing. If you can't afford £30 for MAP you definitely can't afford a child and need to take better precautions. There are non hormonal options all available free.

All the more reason to insist on condom usage.

meganorks · 02/11/2023 19:03

Or if you order online you can probably klana (sp?) or the PayPal credit option.

£20 is more than my entire weeks budget for food. It might not be a lot to you, but it is to some

My partner doesn’t get paid until the end of the weekend which is out of the time frame it is effective.

I did a referral on the NHS thing someone linked so I will be going to that pharmacy as soon as it opens in the morning.

OP posts:
IVFfirsttimer91 · 02/11/2023 19:07

I think at pharmacies they give it to you for free if you take it there with them. If you take it away you have to pay. Or did the last time I used it quite a few years ago now!

BocolateChiscuits · 02/11/2023 19:07

@WhateverMate you do use condoms. Just around the fertile period of your cycle, rather than all the time. It's normally around ovulation that you feel the most horny, so it's unlikely you'd be abstaining.

Cosmosforbreakfast · 02/11/2023 19:09

Your partner should really help you out here and pay for it. If he won't, is there a friend or family member you can borrow the money from? Pay it back on payday or arrange some sort of payment plan. Please consider using condoms after this, the morning after can have terrible side effects.

WhateverMate · 02/11/2023 19:10

Good, glad it's sorted.

If you're going to stick to this form of contraception though, I recommend you keep some money aside at all times for the MAP.

BocolateChiscuits · 02/11/2023 19:10

@WhateverMate Plus, I've had to get the MAP before because of split condom. No contraception is perfect.

"You can only get pregnant on two days of your cycle" sorry to state the obvious but sperm can last 5 days in your body. So while you're at your most fertile on the day before and day of ovulation, it's actually a 7 day risky/fertile window. And given that someone on this chain got pregnant from having sex on day 6, you may want to rethink this method!
