My dogs ate raw egg -what do I do?

I was making scrambled egg and someone knocked at the door
Came back in and my dog was on the bench licking the bowl of raw egg
He's had a few licks of it
Now obviously I'm panicking
What do I do?
Try and make him sick ?
Can this kill him ?

Actually it's unclear where that first para comes from, I think the Australian site I saw underneath it said they're fine.
Probably American - quite a lot of their food standards and means of raising animals aren't very good.

Humans eat raw eggs all the time, it's a hangover cure, it will do dogs no harm.

Raw eggs are the least of it.

I mean I've had dogs that ate cat poo, their own and others vomit, and the contents of a ripped binbag,. And been fine. I think raw eggs are the least of your worries!

Eggs in the uk are generally really unlikely to have salmonella risk. Especially if the eggs have the lion mark stamped on them, as they are laid by hens vaccinated against it. The advice is that it is safe for pregnant women to eat raw lion stamped eggs in the uk, so it really isn’t something to worry about for your dog.

Totally fine. Ours eats raw eggs as a regular part of her diet. It's great for skin and coat.

Another one whose dog has the occasional raw egg (and far worse!) and it’s fine. In the situation you describe my reaction would only have been annoyance that my lunch had been snaffled. Glad you’re feeling reassured - google really is a mixed blessing for medical advice for animals as well as humans!

Our dog has a raw egg mixed through his dinner regularly. It gives them a beautiful shiny coat.

I dry out and powder empty egg shells using a pestle/mortar and sprinkle them over our dogs food!

Dogs eat shit and vomit...a raw egg will be fine.

Have to say OP, in my extensive experience of dogs (labs) eating crap they shouldn’t, the farting after raw eggs is quite something 🫠

Things my dog has stolen, eaten and been fine:

• an entire chicken carcass from a neighbour's binbag
• quite a slab of Toblerone
• several Quality Street
• a pack of mince
• a pack of butter - though this did make her sick later

When my old dog was young he'd scoff sheepshit and roadkill with no ill effects. The only thing that ever made him poorly was once he licked the road after a slurry wagon had gone dripping along it. Urgh.

My dogs steal them from the chicken house, they bloody love them. Raw egg is perfectly fine in this country.

We used to give our Ddog an egg with her kibble when she hadn't been well, instead of meat.

Why do you think raw eggs (or cooked eggs) are bad for dogs.
My dog loves them and when I inadvertendly dropped a carton of eggs on the floor - he enjoyed one included in his next 6 meals!

I love raw biscuit and cake batter, more raw eggs the better 😁 god when you think of the rubbish dogs eat!

I seriously wonder why people get dogs if one if them eating a food that Is good for them causes this amount of panic!

My aunt and my parents always have raw egg to their dogs. Now they say they’ve the same chance of getting salmonella we have but if your dog seems fine you’ll be fine!!

Dogs are disgusting. They eat dead things and shit. An egg is no biggie and even humans can eat raw eggs safely in the UK.

(I adore dogs btw, but they are gross sometimes)
