If you’ve been using your vouchers against anything in your basket….has this stopped this week?

The only way I could substantiate paying for weekly shipping would be the free weekend papers
will now cherry pick and use Sainsbury’s for usual shopping
waitrose now have £4k less revenue and Xmas shop now M&S

I haven't had any paper vouchers for at least a couple of years now. Hardly ever use the app vouchers as they are such a faff and I thought you had to buy the exact thing, which never seemed to be in stock. Hardly any manned tills or staff on the shop floor now. The staff that are left are lovely but it has become a lot more impersonal. Ours still has a coffee machine if you remember to bring your own cup but last time I had a coffee from it it was really weak and not very pleasant. I hadn't noticed that the green token thing has gone but now it is mentioned, that's another thing. Basically there's nothing left to make it stand out from other supermarkets as a pleasant experience and worth the higher prices for.

Reviving this thread!
Last week I did my online shop and my chosen vouchers were not allowed at checkout. I have been noticing for the past few weeks chosen vouchers are being added automatically, not by me adding at check out. It happened after I had updated the order, so they must have been OK at my first order. I emailed customer services and got a patronising email implying I didn't understand how to use the vouchers. As someone upthread said, it's not the money, it's the principle!

Feeling a bit miffed I emailed them and reiterated very plainly it seemed to be a problem at their end, not mine. I had a very slightly more polite response which said they would ask their technical dept to investigate but there would be a long wait to hear back.

Tonight I sent in my order and now only one voucher of the two has been accepted. It seemed to happen after I had amended my order to add some extra carrots, so maybe that is where the problem lies?

Anyway, I have complained again. I can't be the only one.

Obviously I am alone!

Anyway, just a warning to check your receipts. Last night my total listed on email ed amended receipt was
Offer Savings - £4.89. Voucher Savings - £1 even though my voucher(s) had been rejected at checkout.
This morning, pre delivery final receipt is
Offers - £2.50. Vouchers - nil
No substitutions or cancellations.

So odd it just feels like a scam. Emailed Waitrose yet again.

Ineffable23 · 24/11/2024 08:12

I keep getting notifications that I have new vouchers and then not getting any vouchers at all when I open the app? I know it's not the same thing but feels like there might be several issues at the moment?

ExquisiteIyDesigned · 24/11/2024 08:17

I don’t shop online and have given up scanning the My Waitrose card at the till unless I want the magazine, and I don’t normally bother with that any more either. They need to up their game on the loyalty front.

TeaAndStrumpets · 24/11/2024 08:26

Glad it's not just me then!
I know in the grand scheme of things it's just a few quid. I think sending the receipt for one amount last night then mysteriously raising the total this morning is either inefficient or dishonest.
Neither I nor DH are able to push a trolley so we rely on home delivery.

You’re not the only one. Mine added fine when I placed this weeks order. Then when I amended it it said they weren’t valid. I managed to get them added back on eventually, but now I’ve checked my receipt I can’t see them on there.

Not just me then!

I can accept the odd computer glitch but their customer service has been awful The last condescending email (which implied I couldn't work the internet) concluded by asking me to fill in a customer satisfaction form for a chance to win something or other. I did not fill it in.

1apenny2apenny · 24/11/2024 09:21

You used to be able to use the vouchers against anything, it didn't check. Then they amended it to check and it had to be the exact item. They then amended it so that if you had selected it and had the exact item then it was automatically applied.

Then they stopped the free papers.

This coupled with the frequent lack of stock, especially anything on offer, had meant I've pretty much stopped using them. I've never done my main shop there but the frequent top ups add up. I also find many of their staff quite abrupt and rude, BA got like this - it almost as if they think that you should be grateful they are serving you 🥴.

Bestinshow22 · 24/11/2024 09:28

I stopped bothering with the vouchers too, too much faff for too little reward.

And I agree with the poster who said they now only use Waitrose from time to time for specific products. I do the same because they are increasingly unreliable, items out of stock or ‘not available online’. I get a Waitrose order about once a month, and the rest of the time I use Ocado.

TeaAndStrumpets · 24/11/2024 10:02

They are certainly not doing themselves any favours.

ZippyDoodle · 24/11/2024 10:04

I still use them but they're not as good as they were. Every week my higher value vouchers are generally either a large block of cheddar cheese or a four pack tuna. There's only so much tuna and cheese you can eat!

Not sure what is so difficult about using them. I just select a voucher on the app and use the handheld scanner in store. It automatically applies the voucher at the till.

Of course no problem at the till, it's the online check out that isn't working. The delivery this morning was charged at £2.39 more than the original order yesterday when nothing has changed.

fussychica · 24/11/2024 12:22

Twice in the last two weeks I've selected an item for discount and when I've gone to the checkout its not been accepted. On both occasions the staff said I had the wrong product and then realised I didn't. They tried and couldn't get it to work either and had to do a manual override.
Absolute faff for not a lot.

TeaAndStrumpets · 24/11/2024 12:54

@Waitrose used to do good discounts every Autumn if you spent eg £40. I used to buy and freeze stuff for Christmas.

TeaAndStrumpets · 25/11/2024 15:39

After I emailed about the most recent disappearing vouchers I had another reply from Waitrose.

So, I lost £1 worth of vouchers the previous week, this week I lost another £1 in vouchers swallowed by their system. I also lost £2.39 from my offer savings so in theory I am down £3.39 this week alone.

Waitrose are sending me a £1 evoucher for my trouble, so I am sobbing with joy.

Letmegohome · 25/11/2024 16:25

This week I have personalised vouchers seven items to choose from I can choose two of them and each is 50p off, I usually have two generic vouchers last time it was bread and i can't remember the other item I get free coffee and free waitrose weekend paper and their own magazines.

maudelovesharold · 25/11/2024 16:36

TheUsualChaos · 24/09/2023 19:00

They're rubbish. Most of the vouchers I get offered are for things I rarely buy. Got 50p off milk this week 🙄 considering we spend thousands a year there..starting to lose my loyalty fast.

Edited

Yes, me too. Tens of thousands over 25+ years. In fact I’ve used that line in a minor spat with customer services, and, in retrospect, thought how entitled it must have made me sound!

Well, moment of truth. In the (very convenient) retail park where my Waitrose is, two stores have come to the end of their leases and Lidl are planning to take over. I can’t pretend I won’t be straight in there!

maudelovesharold · 25/11/2024 16:40

free waitrose weekend paper

How? I was told they were ‘phasing out’ the free papers. Mine stopped ages ago! I mean phase out all you like, Waitrose, but do it fairly…

Letmegohome · 25/11/2024 16:48

@maudelovesharold was to me?
If yes our shop just has their own brand weekend paper (Thursday it arrives instore) it's available at the customer service desk or once through the tills.

AdoraBell · 25/11/2024 16:51

My online vouchers were okay.

I think it's OK if you don't try and amend your order, they know there is a problem at their end.
Their customer service is so poor.

Letmegohome · 25/11/2024 16:58

*was that to me

Ah, yes, thanks for replying! I had vouchers for a free national newspaper every day for years from Waitrose, then they suddenly stopped a couple of years ago. A friend of mine carried on getting them until recently despite spending a fraction of what I do every week!
