Inspired by the whatever happened to Timotei thread I fancy getting a really lovely smelling shampoo (currently using Garnier coconut one) that doesn't have a designer price tag ...I'd love some ideas please

L’ Elvive Extradordinary Oil - Miracle Hair perfector - not a shampoo but an oil for dry hair. Lovely smell.

I recently got L'Oréal Elvive Extraordinary Oil because it was on offer and think I've found my new go to! It smells lovely and leaves my hair feeling so soft and silky. I got the one that's for "dry hair".

Sorry, hadn’t read your comment when I posted mine. It’s lush.

I love herbal essences, all fragrances but especially the raspberry and mint one! Can nearly always find it on offer too. Smells lovely and fresh

There was another brand that has an argan oil one, also smelt gorgeous but I can't remember which one!

I love the garnier banana shampoo smell and weirdly the minty fresh smell of alpecin!

Aveda Shampure is lovely, as is Paul Mitchell Awapuhi.

I've heard that L'Oréal Elvive is very similar to Kerastase (same company) so it might be worth a sniff to see if they are alike, and the formulation might be similar too.

Great tip about Elvive, thank you

My sister and I were just chatting about how shampoo smells have changed. We both bought some aussie and it smells nothing like it used to.

I had a friend that got me hooked on Charles Worthington shampoos in the late 90s. The smell was divine. So I bought some a couple of weeks ago. Smells nothing like it used to.

I reckon laws have changed that have banned the additives/scents that used to be used.

Linco beer from back in the day. It even came in a little barrel shape bottle.

But if we're talking nowadays it's definitely Oway. Very pricey but gorgeous. I used to rave about Aveda but Oway is next level.

Garnier ultimate blends papaya. Lasts for days but be warned I get people trying to sniff my hair a lot!

The purple (biotin and collagen) OGX

I love Apricot smelling shampoo but can never find any

Agree with the pp on the original / former smell of Pantene (curls and waves) shampoo.

jays · 10/09/2023 15:39

I have loads of expensive perfumes and have never had a random compliment but when I wash my hair with L’Oréal Extraordinary Oil shampoo and conditioner quite a few family/friends have said me/my hair smells lovely.

I don't think any shampoo will ever beat the gorgeous almond smell of 1980s Vidal Sassoon for me.

Nothing will ever beat that! Ever!

I loved that shampoo!

Another one here who really misses the Vidal Sassoon almond smell. The shampoo and conditioner were really good for my hair too.

I recently tried Pears shampoo for the nostalgia. It still smells the same (like the soap) but not the greatest quality.

Shampoo manufacturers are missing a trick here-let’s hope some are reading this thread!

Oldraver · 10/09/2023 16:10

Aussie SOS smells gorgeous

BettyBootsie · 10/09/2023 16:22

Remember Salon Selectives from the early 90s? It had an amazing scent that lasted for ages

DreamOnDream · 10/09/2023 16:32

My OG is the Paul Mitchell Awapuhi shampoo. Been using it since the 90's now I think.

I'm a hairdresser and have been using Paul Mitchell for almost 30 years. Awapuhi shampoo doesn't smell like it used to :(

I love the smell of Flex

V05 used to sell a lilac coloured shampoo in the 70’s I think it was Jasmine it was lovely smelling not overpowering

This has recently been relaunched but without "Flex". I got two huge bottles of the shampoo and conditioner in Home Bargains for £2.99 each. I can't get enough of that scent!!

HRTQueen · 10/09/2023 22:33

Thank you Redlarge I added some to my Amazon basket

but first shall go to home bargains and have a sniff at the shampoos thanks TheFormidableMrsC
