Best flapjack recipe

I’ve got a notion for a gooey, chewy, most delicious thing my mouth has ever tasted, flapjack.
I am a terrible baker, so this is usually a problem.
BUT if you’d be kind enough to give me your most fail safe recipe then I could crack on and eat the flapjacks of my dreams.
Many thanks

That recipe was really popular on a forum called hitched so wondered if you were once on there.

No, never heard of it. I found the "original" via google back in 2006. In fact it's coming up for its 17th birthday in a few weeks 😂😂

Teaandscone · 10/09/2023 10:57

Very interested to hear of condensed milk in flapjacks; will try this - thank you.
NB condensed milk freezes successfully and it doesn’t freeze in a solid block so it’s possible to gouge out what you need.

SoupDragon · 10/09/2023 10:58

Yes, I often freeze the left over half a tin to stop me eating it or making more flapjacks immediately 😂

I always follow this recipe and they are to die for. Chewy, squidgy deliciousness.

Glovesandscarf · 10/09/2023 12:13

And now I discover I have no condensed milk. Bah.

zippitydoda · 10/09/2023 12:31

I saved this ages ago from here. Still not made them.

I just started googling trying to find the Hitched Flapjack recipe and came across this! I can’t remember the name of who use to post it but this definitely looks like 😊

Greensleeves · 21/09/2023 15:47

Soupdragon recipe 👇 never disappoints. I've just had one for lunch (I add glace cherries and a bit of shredded coconut)

Luxembourgmama · 21/09/2023 15:51

This one is focking unreal www.sarahsslice.co.uk/post/sarah-s-flapjack

MyCatHasStaff · 21/09/2023 15:52

I always use Soupdragon recipe. Never fails. Although as someone else said, double it and use the whole tin.

Glovesandscarf · 21/09/2023 15:52

I have made these with a layer of grated apple & raspberries in the middle they need much longer at a lower temp if you do this as the mixture is a bit wetter. V nice. Probably nicer without the fruit on though 😂

GalaApples · 21/09/2023 15:56

The recipe that was maybe still is on the side of the Quaker Oats packet, plus some lemon juice which makes them yummy (my mother's invention). Top tip with flapjacks is to take them out of the oven before you think they look done, as they harden up when in the air and can go too crispy.

If it includes the phrase "If I'm honest, I just bung the milk in at step 3." It's "mine" 😂 (although I never posted on Hitched ever)

Scruffington · 21/09/2023 16:18

I always use the soupdragon recipe too. I sometimes drizzle chocolate across the top. Best flapjacks ever.

ScoobyT · 21/09/2023 16:46

I’m sure the person that posted it on hitched got it somewhere else but it was always known as hers (she admitted she got it elsewhere and adapted it). This was a good 15 years ago anyway. I’m just glad I found it, or one similar, again 😂

Saucery · 21/09/2023 16:51

120g sugar
240g butter
240g oats
240g self raising flour
110g golden syrup
sultanas or chopped apricots to taste

Melt butter, sugar and golden syrup in a pan. Add dry ingredients. Oven at 180 for 11 mins.
Cakey and chewy.

Mine was adapted from elsewhere too, 17 years ago 😂. I bet most recipes are TBH.

ScoobyT · 21/09/2023 18:02

Definitely all the best ones are 🥰

Joining for recipes - had a nice on in a cafe yesterday and feel inclined to make some.

Picklewicklepickle · 21/09/2023 19:01

I make Soupdragon’s ones every couple of weeks for my DC’s snack, although DH snaffles half of them. I usually put dried apricots in them or whatever random dried fruit/nuts we have leftover. I find the leftover condensed milk is fine in a Tupperware in the fridge.

I’ve been experimenting with doing them in the airfryer but they’re too soft on the bottom so I need to persevere.

morbidcuriosity · 08/10/2023 06:22

Just want to add, i took the condensed milk recipie and tried it.. OMG! its amazing! thank you..

Whatheactualchuff · 08/10/2023 13:54

I made Soupdragons recipe in the end. Tasted absolutely delicious but with the consistency of gravel, I think I took the advice about not pressing them hard into the tin far too seriously.
I’m most definitely trying again but with extra pressure next time
