Dilute juice - water or juice first?

Just trying to end a debate!!!!

Dilute juice… do you add the water first or the juice?

Personally I add the water first, then the juice. I can confirm that this he caused a debate. A large debate.

Squash or cordial first then the water. You are watering it down. Otherwise you'd be squashing down the water.

It's not juice.... that's a different thing altogether.

If OP is Scottish it most definitely is 'diluting juice'.

Call it 'squash'' or (clutches Scottish pearls) 'cordial' in Scotland and you'd get looked at funny. (Or as pp says called a numpty)

All soft drinks are juice in Scotland

Diluting juice
Fresh juice
Fuzzy juice

I do juice first, but all these modern super concentrated ones confuse me.

Squash first. It doesn't mix properly otherwise.

pilates · 29/08/2023 20:29

Squash then water

Lilithlogic · 29/08/2023 20:29

Squash, ice then water

Wiii · 29/08/2023 20:32

Do you mean cordial? Juice first

MolkosTeenageAngst · 29/08/2023 20:33

Juice first and then add the water.

WinterStar1 · 29/08/2023 20:39

Water then juice

Kpo58 · 29/08/2023 20:58

Juice first for 2 reasons
1/ You know how much juice you are adding as you cannot tell the other way round
2/ It doesn't mix properly if you add the juice in second unless you put it all in a small food processor or something

Thanks. I wasn't born in the UK and have never heard the term juice to mean anything other than a squeezed fruit juice! I looked at wikipedia and it said the same- hence I asked on here for clarification on what the OP meant.

Ah, diluting juice is a Scottish thing 😁

Chocolatesandroses · 29/08/2023 21:50

Juice then water

Sierra26 · 29/08/2023 21:56

Juice first unless you have a weird tap (like our current kitchen one) that for some reason makes it all foam up when the water hits the juice. I’ve reluctantly had to reverse my process.

Also it’s diluting juice, never squash :p

Cowlover89 · 29/08/2023 21:59

Juice then water

Ambi · 29/08/2023 22:00

Juice then water but I do add cereal to milk. I like crunchy cereal floating on top. I know everyone thinks it's weird.

Shakenbutbarelystirred · 29/08/2023 22:01

Orange squash that I am making for someone else (eg jug at a party), squash then water.

Lime cordial that I am doing for myself, water then squash.

Loub55 · 29/08/2023 22:02

Water first for me too OP!
I find it easier to judge the strength that way. DH does it the same too!

Whattheflipflap · 29/08/2023 22:06

I feel like this is bonkers now but I just decide to do it either way depending on if I’m closer to the sink with the water or the cupboard with the juice.

example, clean glass is in the dishwasher (under sink and to the left slightly) or on the draining board (to the right of the sink) I will put water in first as I’m near the sink. I will then walk across the kitchen to get the juice/cordial/squash
if however I get a glass from the glass cupboard, which is above the cordial/squash cupboard I will put the cordial/squash whatever you want to call it in the cup first then go to the sink.

makes absolutely no difference in my mind. I’m very lazy clearly.
work smarter not harder 😂

DilkushaKitchen · 29/08/2023 22:07

I know that some people call squash juice, but we also drink "juicy water", which is orange juice in a big glass or a pint glass (about a third) topped up with water. It's nice, more thirst quenching than juice, but more interesting than water without being too sweet.

Ha the juice for everything thing was one of the first 'lost in translation' moments between me and English DH!
