Dilute juice - water or juice first?

Just trying to end a debate!!!!

Dilute juice… do you add the water first or the juice?

Personally I add the water first, then the juice. I can confirm that this he caused a debate. A large debate.

Squash first, then water.

ShortColdandGrey · 29/08/2023 16:56

Juice then water. Do you also add the Teabag into your cup after you add the water?

JuneBeWonderful · 29/08/2023 16:58

Juice then water.

Water then juice.

DinosApple · 29/08/2023 17:01

Squash first.

If you pour it in afterwards it doesn't mix properly and the squash sits in the top half. No one wants a watery bottom!

JanesBlond · 29/08/2023 17:02

Squash first so you can see how much you’ve put in. I don’t understand how you put in too much when you do it this way - and even if you did, you can just pour it back into the bottle since it’s undiluted still.

Because that's not your first time having squash.

You get an idea of where on the glass the juice needs to be to be your preferred level of sweetness.

I like different strengths for different squashes 😂 I love a weak lime cordial but a robust orange squash. Summer fruits is somewhere in the middle. And these quadruple concentrate squashes are a minefield, one drop too many and the squash is ruined. Water first for all squashes and then add to taste 😁

IHateWasps · 29/08/2023 17:15

I’m with you OP! If you put the squash in first, how can you tell how strong it’s going to be?! I add squash to water so I can sip it and add more if I need to.

You can do the same even if you add the squash first.

ItsASnag · 29/08/2023 17:24

Op. It's simple. You just try a few times to gauge the right amount, and once you find the sweet spot, you just rinse and repeat every single time without a single thought about it ever again.

Next!

Do you mean squash? It would be a bit odd to add water to juice.

ShadowPuppets · 29/08/2023 17:30

Are you Scottish OP? Only my Scottish friends call it dilute/diluting juice!

I'm with (almost) everyone - squash/cordial/dilute juice first then water. If you're making it for yourself you know exactly how much to add. If you're doing it for someone else you make it a bit weak and then top up (but as per PP, you do then need to stir it, whereas juice then water = saving on a teaspoon's worth of washing up)

SM4713 · 29/08/2023 18:01

Do you mean fruit juice like orange/apple, or a concentrated cordial/squash???

Water first, then I pour the squash in. I have the bottle in my hand, so can add a bit more easily if not the right colour. I'm sure the other way works if you get used to how much squash to start with though.

Hibernatalie · 29/08/2023 18:23

Juice first, of course

Makinguseofthethingsthatwefind · 29/08/2023 18:36

Squash and diluting juice are the same thing 😁

Makinguseofthethingsthatwefind · 29/08/2023 18:36

Squash and diluting juice are the same thing 😁

Thanks. I wasn't born in the UK and have never heard the term juice to mean anything other than a squeezed fruit juice! I looked at wikipedia and it said the same- hence I asked on here for clarification on what the OP meant.

user1496146479 · 29/08/2023 18:46

Always juice first

EversoDetermined · 29/08/2023 18:47

Juice first

NeverDropYourMooncup · 29/08/2023 18:48

Ice, then juice, then water. Any other way is where chaos lies.

DinnaeFashYersel · 29/08/2023 18:55

It really doesn't make any difference 😂

Hungryfrogs23 · 29/08/2023 18:57

Juice first then water. Honestly hadn't ever occurred to me to do it any other way 😄

SilverSpringss · 29/08/2023 19:03

OP I do water first!

I used to do juice first but kept making it too strong as they kept changing the concentration of the juice.

So now I put water first and then top up with juice until it it the desired colour.

MillicentTrilbyHiggins · 29/08/2023 19:18

Depends. I'm not sure what it depends on, but I do it both ways.

VisionsOfSplendour · 29/08/2023 19:23

I assume you're taking about squash as adding water and juice is weird regardless of what order you do it in but of course you put the squash in the glass first

Leumurshavethumbs · 29/08/2023 19:34

If you call diluting juice 'squash' in Scotland, you run the risk of being called a numpty.

WestendVBroadway · 29/08/2023 19:39

Just to be a difficult bugger, I call it cordial which I realise may be technically incorrectDefinitely cordial/squash first.
