For some weird reason I have heard two unusual surnames today , Younghusband and Gotobed . Which ( in a light hearted way ) could be used to formulate a sentence -
" Gotobed younghusband !
What unusual ones do you know ?

My surname is unusual, I have to spell it every time I’m asked for my name. It also occasionally causes people to stumble over it and pronounce it incorrectly 😬

I’ve been researching my family tree recently and have gone back as far as the 1500’s on both sides and have seen some unusual surnames, such as ‘Buggs’, ‘Trumpess’ and ‘Rainbird’.

Mrs English
Mr Speak

Winterbottom - is that unusual? I went to school with a girl with that surname, it used to make me chuckle (any mention of bottom when you are a kid!)

I always chuckle at the name of the film director Michael Winterbottom - to me, he will always be Mickey Windybottom Grin

I once knew a man with the surname Brothwell, who insisted that the 'w' must be pronounced!

Ah i remember when I worked in retail signing a customer up for a store card. Her form of ID was her driving license. Her surname was Peniston which meant her driving license number was PENIS122445

I once knew a person with the surname Jolly which I thought was nice.

My surname is very unusual, I haven't ever met anyone with the same name unless they were related.

blackheartsgirl · 04/08/2023 23:17

Tongue and Diaper stand out as unfortunate ones, Miss Tongue was training alongside me to be a teacher and I always wondered how that would go down in the classroom although I didn’t know her well enough to ask!

She handed over a new admission called Mr Christmas l I fell about laughing because I thought she was taking the piss !! So this lovely chap was real and now 40 years later we still laugh…she is still one of my besties 💕

Yesabsolutely · 04/08/2023 23:49

TiffanyIceberg · 05/08/2023 00:15

I worked at a place with a Bracegirdle, a Kneebone, and a Merryweather, and lived next door to Longbottoms.

BlondeBimboGirl · 05/08/2023 00:20

Worked with a man at my old job whose surname was Tortoiseshell. Always thought it was strange!

MistyGreenAndBlue · 05/08/2023 00:45

DH once came across a Mrs. Wardrobe. In a furniture shop.

I had an English teacher called Mrs. Batty. Worst part was, she did look a bit like the grampa in the Munsters. Unfortunate.

I knew a Frood once as a child.

Had to work professionally once with Mr Sexe. I truly do not understand why he didn’t change it.
