Paranormal? Hearing ice cream van music at night

Thisisscarystuff · 02/08/2023 19:40

Just wondering if anyone has experienced this, it’s very very strange and quite unusual and I don’t know what to make of it.

A couple of years ago my then 14 year old DD told me she would be lying in bed at night and would hear ice cream van music which would last a few seconds. She said it scared her a lot. I kind of dismissed it putting it down to any one of many rational explanations ie maybe someone was walking down the street and it was their phone, maybe it was our next door neighbours (we live in a semi).

Over the years she would tell me about this music which would play at random times but always at night. She said she would be crying under the covers she was so scared as the music was loud and came out of nowhere. Again I kind of dismissed it.

Until I heard it myself. DH, DD and I got home late last night about 1 am and we’re standing in the kitchen talking and all of a sudden this scary ice cream van music starts playing. DD is kind of paralysed with fear and starts screaming “did you hear it, that was the music I’ve been hearing in my room for years”.

Cant really think of a logical reason as to where this music was coming from. The neighbours are away on holiday so not them, we were in the kitchen so no one walking past with a phone etc.

Has anyone experienced this?

I heard a random burst of classical music once in my house, I was on the phone to my mum and suddenly the room played a short loud classical music piece.

I ran all over the house looking out of windows under things to fine the source, but nothing. My Mum didn’t hear the music but could hear the
fear in my voice and was really worried.

No NDN, no tech, ring doorbells etc.

winterchills · 03/08/2023 21:06

No ideas to offer other than pack up and leave that house!! 🤣 how creepy!!

Tulipvase · 03/08/2023 21:41

without wanting to be too flippant, I told my husband about this thread. He now plays ice cream van music via Alexa whenever I go into the kitchen…..

I hope you solve the mystery soon though.

@Tulipvase 😂I'm so glad it's not just my DH who does stuff like that.

Copperoliverbear · 03/08/2023 23:11

Maybe have your house exorcized. X

Haha, mine tried so hard bless him. I wonder how long he had been waiting to do it!

I’d be scared to death in reality. So I’m not taking the mickey.

This is the most bizarre thing I’ve read in a while …. I need answers

coxesorangepippin · 04/08/2023 02:03

I have no idea op, but you have my sympathy

TimeToMoveIt · 04/08/2023 02:15

The drug dealers around here haven't sold out of ice cream vans for years. They just pull up in cars blasting their music out these days

Aloebee · 04/08/2023 03:32

Yes I've heard it. I work in a care home was sat in the staff kitchen toilets one day and it sounded as if it came from the fan. Its Impossible to hear anything as the kitchen is so far away from anything else it was very creepy.

WunWun · 04/08/2023 12:43

lol I drove passed one today and looked at it in a whole new light !!

winewolfhowls · 04/08/2023 20:35

I'm so interested in what this could be!
Have you checked under and behind all cupboards for old toys, could be quite small like a tamagochi style noisy keyring

GameOverBoys · 05/08/2023 00:05

Do you live near any building sites or empty houses? Sometimes unoccupied buildings have a security system that plays creepy music to freak out would be trespassers.

3beesinmybonnet · 05/08/2023 00:58

I regularly hear a short burst of music in my house around midnight (I am a bit of a night owl). It sounds like a synthetic synthesiser-y sound IYKWIM on one fairly high note followed by a series of beeps. I eventually tracked it down to the cupboard under the stairs where the meters live, so I assume it's the smart meter communicating with its overlords.
Mind you, I've never been quick enough to actually catch it in the act, so who knows?

KickingEAP · 05/08/2023 09:03

This reminds me of the thread a few months ago where the OP was hearing creepy music in the garden. There was a lot of speculation about what it could be but the thread was pulled because apparently things had escalated but not in a paranormal way. What on Earth could have happened?!

As for the ice cream van music, could it be an app on your DD's phone. Like a notification?

Giggorata · 05/08/2023 09:33

When I was a teen, I began hearing a ticking watch/clock in the house. It happened in various rooms and was heard by my sister as well.
We searched all over for discarded watches, clocks, etc, to no avail. This was well before the digital age.
When I moved out to live with my boyfriend, it followed me to our new house. He heard it as well.
I didn’t notice when it stopped. But I’m glad it did.

GarlicGrace · 05/08/2023 12:26

@KickingEAP, this was 2018 but I'm guessing it was a similar story - they crop up every few months, but rarely make it to the BBC news! If her local media picked it up, she'd have wanted to delete her thread.

Ipswich woman 'terrified' by nursery rhyme alarm

The woman heard the sound of "It's raining, it's pouring" intermittently over the course of a year.

Sometimes I hear a phone ringing when I am alone upstairs in the house at night.
It's not mine.
We don't have a land line and it's a detached house.

LordEmsworth · 02/08/2023 21:56

Everything in that story is brilliant!

This thread is now reminding me of one that lives rent free in my head, the lady who was hearing the creepy nursery rhyme in her garden, then flowers started appearing.

Then it got pulled with a very odd deletion message and I have never been able to stop thinking about it.

Beenhereforever1978 · 05/08/2023 14:32

@KickingEAP yes that one!!!

tootallfortheshelf · 05/08/2023 14:33

Sounds like some kind of hypnagogia or rem intrusion to me 🤷

FatNoMoreSue · 05/08/2023 14:36

Seriously? Someone says “ice cream van” and people think “paranormal”? I despair.
