Feeling a bit mopey after checking the bank balance-need to do something to cheer myself up!
What is your favourite quote from the bard?
My favourite is "To be an idiot full of sound and fury" but my most used is probably "One woe doth tread upon another's heel"

Often said in our house - from Lear "Poor Tom's a-cold".

nocoolnamesleft · 01/08/2023 17:52

This week I think I'll go with "The rain it raineth every day".

Saisong · 01/08/2023 17:54

Tomorrow and tomorrow and tomorrow...

MrsSamR · 01/08/2023 17:55

As flies to wanton boys are we to the Gods, they kill us for their sport (King Lear)

spartanrunnergirl · 01/08/2023 17:56

Eternity was in our lips and eyes,
Bliss in our brow’s bent

  • Cleopatra, Antony and Cleopatra.

Swoon.

Drews · 01/08/2023 17:57

More of your conversation would infect my brain

HundredMilesAnHour · 01/08/2023 17:59

His knell is knolled.

StColumbofNavron · 01/08/2023 17:59

I often walk around the house and greet my teenage children with ‘do you bite your thumb at me sir’. I do both sides of the conversation and they eyeroll but they smile.

My favourite is Lady Macbeth and her ‘too full of the milk of human kindness’ soliloquy, but I haven’t managed to appropriately incorporate that into daily life.

How sharper than a serpent's tooth it is to have a thankless child.
Been using that one for years 😔

PuddleglumtheMarshWiggle · 01/08/2023 18:02

Have we no wine here? - from Corialanus.
Said after a long work day

FatherJackHackettsUnderpantsHamper · 01/08/2023 18:06

"I pray you, sir, what saucy merchant was this, that was so full of his ropery?"

Was saucy merchant Bard-speak for a CF?!

TheIsleOfTheLost · 01/08/2023 18:06

Out damn spot, out I say!

Generally as the kids have white school shirts and seem to eat tomato based something every day. Never bloody comes off!

TheIsleOfTheLost · 01/08/2023 18:10

There are quite a few people that I would happily see exit pursued by bears, but sadly it never happens.

PurpleChrayne · 01/08/2023 18:22

Civil as an orange!

AdaColeman · 01/08/2023 18:23

Here's one for you @TwoManyKids
"Neither a borrower nor a lender be". Sound advice from Polonius!

The Scottish play is often quoted here, at the moment this is extremely apt.
"When shall we three meet again? In thunder, lightning or in rain."

Friedgreentomatoestoo · 01/08/2023 18:23

In times of financial need - "I know a bank" - Twelfth Night

"What a lack-brain is this" ?! - Henry IV Part 1

newnamethanks · 01/08/2023 18:24

Yes, corian, a favourite in our house as kids snigger at me. Also, 'he who steals my purse, steals trash'.

BarelyLiterate · 01/08/2023 18:25

‘The lady doth protest too much, methinks.’

Very apt for MN…

Thanks. Its a really good one!

WaxhamSeals · 01/08/2023 18:28

More King Lear:
“ O, reason not the need! Our basest beggars Are in the poorest thing superfluous.”

Sgtmajormummy · 01/08/2023 18:28

“There is method in (my) madness.”
Usually to the kids at a wait-and-see but leave-me-in-peace moment.
