Anyone else's school not broken up for the summer yet?

My Facebook feed is full of people celebrating the last day of the school year and heading off on holiday.

Is my kids' school the only one still ploughing on? Last day of term is Tuesday. 😒

For clarity, my youngest is heading into Y13 next year so thankfully this is the last time we'll have to deal with this shit.

whoruntheworldgirls · 21/07/2023 21:25

YourNameGoesHere · 21/07/2023 21:25

Also Tuesday

BeyondMyWits · 21/07/2023 21:27

Ours is Tuesday, some other local schools have Monday/Tuesday as inset days,so effectively finish today.

Redshoeblueshoe · 21/07/2023 21:28

Wednesday

Tulipvase · 21/07/2023 21:31

I don’t feel too hard done by having an inset day today now.

Gosh that seems very late, but I guess you go back later, we are back on the 1st Sept.

Going back on a Friday seems exceedingly pointless. I'll be back on Sept 4th like most of my friends who also teach who broke up today or even yesterday.

Good grief!

I think I'd cry! Although it's a long time since I had kids who needed childcare in the holidays. I might be happy if I did.

Yup.

We have an inset Fri/Mon and children back on Tuesday.

Both of DC's schools finish on tuesday.

RegentCafe · 21/07/2023 22:01

Maintained schools have 190 teaching days plus 5 teacher training days.
Some disaggregate teacher training days (up to 5) and have them at the end of the year rather than split across.

So those who break up earlier will probably be returning earlier at some point or didnt have a random day off in March (substitute any teaching month)

Meredusoleil · 21/07/2023 22:01

Wow that is very late! It will be my birthday on Monday and I can't ever remember a time I was in school for it (either teaching or as a student). Maybe when I was really young in primary school, but that was like 40 years ago now 😯

Tulipvase · 21/07/2023 22:05

I’ve just checked our LA and it states that 1st September is a countywide available for work day so assume we all have to do that one and then schools can pick the other 4. Next year we don’t break until the 24th!

We have an oddly long Christmas holiday this year and don’t go back till the 8th Jan!

That's practically August!!
I'm in Ireland. My primary aged DC will have been off 5 weeks by then!

It is indeed. It's going to be a very long week for all involved.

Bowlplatesoupandroll · 21/07/2023 22:37

Mine broke up today and don't go back till 7th September.

Tulipvase · 21/07/2023 22:39

Secondary schools seem to be quite different to primary. I’m primary but my secondary age children won’t go back till the 6th Sept.

cocksstrideintheevening · 21/07/2023 22:54

Depends on if they do twilight insets and two week October half term. We finished today.

Our school used to do this but sadly no more.

Schools in Rotherham don't break up for another fortnight, but they get 2 weeks for October & February half term.

There has been talk of similar here, I’m in two minds. February especially isn’t the best month for an extended holiday. Unless you can ski for example.

It's not an oddly long Christmas break, they are finishing really late if it's the same as us. This year they finish 23rd December, last year it was the 16th!

We finish on the 20th this year. I assume over the year it obviously works out as we all do 190/195 days in school. Just odd it varies so much.

Finishing on the 23rd sounds awful!
