What laundry products make everything smell nice?

I'm fed up of the boring jobs and looking to at least feel like doing laundry is worth it. I've seen adverts for tallow and ash which is a new company and claim to smell amazing. But it's not cheap - is it worth it?
What do you use that keeps your washing smelling lovely?

Thanks for the referral code! I ordered the oud fragrance and washed my bedding - could smell it so strong even 2 days later - beautiful like perfume scent which isn't for everyone but I love it 😍 would definitely recommend Smile

The only thing that works for me is having 2 different bottles of fabric softener and switching between every couple of loads. Don’t know why but it works for me. I hate the smell of clothes dried outdoors!

Fairy everything here.

Persil non bio and comfort pure is a great combo

Can't abide perfumed washing powder, and I rarely if ever use conditioner. I have a Miele machine and use their products - pricey I know, but I use water softener tablets so I can use less detergent. As does my daughter who has a Bosch machine. Standard Miele detergents do not noticeably smell, especially if you peg the washing out to dry it, and performance wise they are very good. If I want to smell, I use perfume.

Think you might have misunderstood the brief.

I bought some Tallow and Ash single wash sachets, I have tried two of the four scents, one is very strong and has an acrid, old aftershave undertone, and the other is overly coconutty and smells like cheap body spray. I hope the other two are nicer.
My Mum’s washing when I was young used to smell lovely, but everything now is either horribly strong and artificial, or slightly strange. I am also on the hunt for a lovely detergent !

Which were the not nice ones (so I know to avoid them!)?

The Aurora one was the one that smelled of aftershave. Actually smells a lot like Tesco non bio laundry pods in the orange box (neroli maybe?) , which I also hated, anyway my towels are all now smelling of it, and I don’t like it at all. Bahamas one is the coconut. Smell is not as strong as the Aurora, but I used less of it as the Aurora was too strong. The Bahamas one smells more of coconut than the other elements it is supposed to have, eg peach. I love anything peachy scented but that isn’t noticeable at all.
I don’t like coconut scented things generally though. I am about to try another sachet so I will report back !

All of those products that make clothes smell "amazing" are nothing but chemicals. Do a bit of research and you'll see how horrible they are for your body and the environment.

Water is also a chemical.
As is oxygen.
I suggest your "research" may be flawed.
Your tin hat is probably also made of chemicals.

I make a powder for giving my laundry a clean scent.

1 cup Epsom salt
1/4 cup baking powder
30 drops peppermint essential oil

I make a big batch and add around 1/4 cup to the drum with the washing. I use this along with a pump of Faith in Nature laundry liquid. It means my washing smells of nothing but a hint of mint, but it is fresh and clean.
The scent boosters etc that you can buy in store cause eczema for my DP, so we go somewhat natural with the products to limit this.

I sent for the samples selection and someone nicked the contents en route. Just had an empty carton delivered.
No response from the company, not impressed to put it mildly!

Try Wilton London, they smell lovely

lawnseed · 22/07/2024 14:01

I ordered a bottle of tallow and ash laundry shampoo and conditioner (duvet day) and a pack of samples. The shampoo used by itself doesn't leave any discernible scent behind, but I used the conditioner and there is a faint scent.

The sample I used I couldn't smell anything at all when I took it out of the washing machine. Perhaps it depends on what cycle you use. I can't use my Eco cycle as it doesn't use enough water and stuff was coming out smelling stale and dirty so I use the cotton three hour cycle or a one hour mixed cycle for more delicate stuff.

I'm disappointed and wouldn't bother buying again. If you use an inadequate (not very long, not much water) cycle you might be okay as it won't get diluted or rinsed away.

Blue Lenor (Spring Awakening) but the Gold Orchid one is gorgeous too, and stronger smelling.
