Hope this little lad is found safe and well.

The search for a missing two-year-old is “at the same point” as it was yesterday, the local prosecutor has said in an update as helicopters spent Tuesday broadcasting a recording of his mother’s voice.
Two-year-old Emile was last seen playing in the garden of a property in Le Vernet in the Alpes-de-Haute department of Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur, with his grandparents notifying the police of his disappearance at around 5.15pm local time on Saturday.
Airborne search teams were instructed to play the recording “as loud as possible” in the hopes of finding the toddler.
However, the investigation still has “no information”, with the prosecutor urging the public to “give the gendarmes time” as investigators probe the 1,200 calls received on the dedicated case line.
“We have no clue, no information, no element that can help us understand this disappearance. We are at the same point than yesterday at the same time”, Rémy Avon, public prosecutor for Digne-les-Bains, told a press conference on Tuesday evening.
“The 30 buildings that make up the Haut-Vernet building were completely visited. 25 people were heard, 12 vehicles visited, 12 hectares raked”, Mr Avon added.

Sorry to be ignorant, iv never seen a bale be made, is there no way he could have survived?

Soubriquet · 20/07/2023 20:17

No. If he got taken in to a baller, no. The wheat is cut by blades, and the machine will tightly wrap it all up and spin it into a bale. No chance.

Neverinamonthofsundays · 03/08/2023 07:16

The search has resumed. It is baffling that they have found nothing at all.

@Neverinamonthofsundays where have you seen that? Can't find anything recent. They seem to have a very different approach to the one that I imagine would be taken here, but possibly they know far more than is being reported.
Poor little boy.

Suunnyd · 03/08/2023 09:04

@Soubriquet goodness, thats horrific. I had no idea.

@Neverinamonthofsundays i dont understand why they stopped the search so quickly. I pray they find him.

Thanks @Neverinamonthofsundays
I do hope they find something conclusive. These unsolved cases must be utter hell for the parents and loved ones. Unthinkable.
Thanks for holding an awareness of this little boy.

Poor little boy.

Given the authorities here don't tend to give running commentaries TBH it's hard to judge what approach is being taken.

Update from Le Figaro here:

Disparition d’Émile : des chiens et un drone déployés au Vernet

De nouveaux moyens vont être engagés par les enquêteurs pour retrouver l’enfant, disparu sans laisser de trace le 8 juillet dernier. Le maire du Haut-Vernet pourrait reconduire l’arrêté interdisant la circulation dans son hameau dans l’après-midi.

The search operations for two-year-old Emile are expected to end today, Rémy Avon, told Agence France-Presse, as he announced a new direction for the investigation

They think it's the family or someone close I reckon.

It almost always is ...

qazxc · 05/08/2023 20:25

They have resumed searches but are definitely looking for a body as opposed to a live boy at this stage. It doesn't automatically mean that foul play is involved ( by the family or otherwise); he could have wandered off. It's hard to search terrain, they might have missed him the first time.

Underthebell · 05/08/2023 21:18

This is so sad and I haven't seen it on the news. Just here. Poor boy.

Neverinamonthofsundays · 06/08/2023 17:39

Your heart would honestly break :(

Soubriquet · 06/08/2023 18:06

I do hope he is found whether he is alive or otherwise. Most parents would be tortured by the what ifs. Least if a body is found, they can start to have closure.

Alive would be fantastic though

The former French Presidential candidate Segolene Royal tweeted that the father had "a very worrying profile"

I don't know whether that's true, or whether SR retracted this statement. It is still there if I google it.

Make of that what you will.

GrapeHyacinth · 06/08/2023 18:20

Reminds me a bit of the Ben Needham case.

This got a mention way back in the thread,.

SR jumped in very early on on social media making allegations about the father having a background/associations with right wing politics...

TBH it looked like SR jumping in and trying to elevate her profile on the back of the case.

I am surprised the lack of publicity on this case. That poor little boy. I hope it’s discovered what happened to him.

Soubriquet · 14/08/2023 14:28

Probably because it’s a French case. Children go missing all over the world and we never notice in the UK because it isn’t a UK thing.

If every child who went missing in the UK had press coverage, that would fill the papers. If we then include the rest of the world ....

It wasn’t in the UK, it was in France. I know so many children go missing in the whole world but I was surprised that the searches didn’t go on for longer. The amount of coverage the the McCanns got was insane so I agree it’s not fair.

pickledandpuzzled · 31/03/2024 15:02

Very sad. And so close by! I hope e find out what happened, poor little lad.

notimagain · 31/03/2024 15:07

Very very sad indeed, for those that what a quick precis in English it seems the remains were found by a hiker/walker and to quote the lead investigating official, as quoted in Le Figaro:

“On March 30, 2024, the national gendarmerie was informed of the discovery of bones near the hamlet of Vernet," he explains. Investigators took possession of the bones immediately transported to the IRCGN in order to have genetic identification analyses carried out that made it possible to conclude on March 31 that they were the bones of the child Emile Soleil. ”

HelloMiss · 31/03/2024 15:09

So close, yet sniffer dogs didn't find him?
