Phone case question

Quite a random question but it was sparked by seeing that meme that says something like all women of a certain age have a phone case that looks like a book (in other words one of those wallet cases where you can keep cards and cash too). Now I'm clearly 'of a certain age' as that's the type of phone case I have. I am just curious what people do without this - do you have enough pocket space to carry a separate wallet too? Or do you take a bag everywhere? I just like to grab this and go when I leave the house - it's got everything I need and I can't be bothered carrying a handbag. But I do like the look of the thinner phone cases too!

I don't usually take anything else as I just use my phone to pay so don't needs cards. If I'm travelling I use a small cross body bag as I usually need to take other bits and pieces and if I'm in London I just use the zip section of my bag for my oyster so it's easy to get in and out quickly.

I have never liked the flappy phone cases though, I did have one many years ago but it fully irritated me

Oh I'm such a dinosaur I'd not thought of paying with my phone! I have honestly never done that. Do you just tap it like with contactless? (I only got in to contactless during the pandemic!!)

Just like contactless. Unlock the phone and tap on the machine. I've also got all my store cards in the same wallet so you don't even need to carry loyalty cards or those key tags.

I'm "of a certain age" but having a phone case with a flap drove me mad. I do tend to take my big mum purse out with me as well but do pay with my phone if I don't have my purse. I need to investigate using Google pay more though, I only use my bank card through my bank app. I didn't realise you can put your store cards on Google pay too

I’ve got a Samsung flip phone. It’s small when closed. I usually take my bag everywhere with me with my purse in. I pay for 90% of things with cash. Samsung pay doesn’t work on my phone so I’ve never used my phone to pay.

I'm well over that retain age but no way would I use one of those phone cases, they're awful.

I have one of those cases on my phone, but only to keep it protected.
I don't pay for anything on my phone, I refuse to, because half of the time I forget to take my phone with me but I never forget my purse.
I don't care if it makes me look like a dinosaur.

I used to have one of those little wallets that sticks on the back of your phone case to keep a few cards in...until my phone got stolen at work and I had no phone and no cards and no means of getting home 🤦🏻‍♀️

Now I use Apple Pay etc but have cards separately in a bag just in case.

I'm over 50 and hate those phone cases. I have got my debit cards and all store cards stored in Google Wallet, and my debit cards are also linked to my smart watch, but to be honest, I usually have a bag with me, with a purse containing all my cards (amongst other stuff)!

I'd just do the same as if I had no cash, go without. As it happens my phone has not had less than 8% battery since 2020 and there's a charger in my car so it's unlikely to happen.

I have that flappy phone case too. I have it to protect the screen from being scratched in my handbag as I need reading glasses and purse and tissues and my house keys and car keys (and other junk like a pen).

Sadly do I not have enough pockets to cary the above which means I can't have a trendy slim phone case 😥

I wouldn't be attempting to buy something if my phone was on low percentage so not much chance of it dying mid transaction. I would charge it in my car beforehand if it was low.

No flappy case here, I use apple pay for everything and have a newish phone that never goes flat in one day. Even if it did I can still use apple pay via my watch and I keep a tenner folded into the phone case. Just carry phone and keys a lot of the time now.

In my experience, the petrol station refuse to let you nip the 30 seconds home to get cash, instead plonking you in their cafe with the world's slowest phone charger... 😳

I have a flappy phone case. I'm aware it ages me but then I am forty something anyway. I like it. It protects my phone when it's in my bag. I don't want to use my phone to pay for stuff yet and become too reliant on it. I may be converted in time. I can't imagine going out without a bag of some sort. Where do you put your keys, tissues, lipstick and marmalade sandwiches?

My new iPhone can hold a charge for near on 2 days with consistent usage, also have a charger in my car and also take a portable charger if I’m going on a night out etc

I'm 56 & have a wallet case for my phone, it means I can have some money on me without having to carry a purse. I'm housebound but sometimes need cash if I have to take a taxi to medical appointments.

Pockets. I don't routinely wear lipstick or need tissues.

I had no idea that foldover phone cases were so maligned. I am glad I have one as it has protected my phone on the few occasions I have dropped it. I keep my driving licence, National Trust card and debit card plus a tenner in it. All my store cards are in my phone. I feel uneasy about using my phone to pay as the fingerprint unlock is unreliable.
