I haven't had it for years but bought a jar on impulse. I forgot just how good it is.

What's the best marmalade? I currently have Duerr's.

And slightly random question but can you buy Marmalade in the U.S?

Yes.

My English husband always picks up "Bon Maman" brand of marmalade at our local grocery store here in Texas. When he's feeling less flush because it can get pricey, there's an American brand called, "Smuckers" that will suffice.

Has to be homemade- WI type sale or craft fair type thing

wildfirewonder · 15/05/2023 20:58

Best marmalade is homemade.

My dh makes marmalade every January when the seville oranges come in. It makes the house smell delicious. I don't eat a lot of jams (he makes them all) but you've reminded me so i will take a marmalade sandwich in to work tomorrow!

NooNooNotSoGreat · 15/05/2023 21:03

I associate Smuckers with peanut butter and marshmallow fluff. Interesting to know that they make Marmalade too, thank you.

Not gonna lie, last year, in january I made kumquat, quince and persimmon marmalade and it was sunshine in a jar.

I really need to make another batch next january.

NooNooNotSoGreat · 15/05/2023 21:08

I'm very envious of all these homemade Marmalades. Unfortunately I don't have ready access to it.

Are there any particularly good shop bought Marmalades?

It is so, so good!

My dearly departed Grandpa used to have marmalade on toast every single day for his breakfast so it always makes me think of him.

The National Trust Christmas marmalade is incredible.

AnyFucker · 15/05/2023 21:09

I LOVE marmalade. The chunkier and tangier the better.

Stratocumulus · 15/05/2023 21:10

My mum has told me it’s possible to make marmalade with any oranges. They don’t have to be Seville which I always use in January for my home made delight.

I hardly ever eat jam and for sure it’s always highest quality marmalade at breakfast. (Check label for sugar to fruit ratio)

Just recently however, and believe me I’ve tried them all, I’ve found that my local Spar shop own brand, rough cut, is excellent stuff. Try it!

Love lemon/lime marmalade with no bits in
The REAL winner though is lemon curd - bloody lovely!

Chowtime · 15/05/2023 21:13

Frank Coopers

Vitriolinsanity · 15/05/2023 21:17

Personally I am fond of Golden Shred. But as it was THREE ENGLISH POUNDS in the Coop this morning I bought their own brand at £1.50.

DuranNotSpandeau · 15/05/2023 21:17

I was beaten to it on lemon curd.

Toasted crumpet, salty butter and lemon curd. It's bliss. I'll have to buy some lemon curd tomorrow now.😁

whoruntheworldgirls · 15/05/2023 21:19

I love tiptree no peel marmalade

HippyChickMama · 15/05/2023 21:19

Frank Cooper's Oxford Marmalade, the vintage one if you can get it but the original is still lovely or I also like Mackay's Vintage Dundee Marmalade

SomethingNastyInTheGenePool · 15/05/2023 21:27

Tiptree. Medium cut.
You have to watch out - a lot of marmalade is made with high fructose corn syrup these days. Even the good stuff, like Frank Cooper’s, contains is.

GellerYeller · 15/05/2023 21:35

Roses lime marmalade and Robinsons Silver Shred remind me of my grandparents. My favourite is Marks and Spencer Ruby Red grapefruit marmalade.
I’ve got a gin flavoured one too! I’m off to find a crumpet now 😂

greencardigangirl · 15/05/2023 21:37

Mercers Marmalade is the BEST!!!

Bigbadmama · 15/05/2023 21:40

The chunkier the bits the better for me, but I am also partial to Sainsburys own brand Ginger preserve.

Davros · 15/05/2023 21:45

Rise's lemon & lime marmalade for me. I really don't like any orange ones. Being in the UK, I would never buy Bonne Maman

Davros · 15/05/2023 21:46

Rose's ffs

00100001 · 15/05/2023 21:51

You're making me want toast and marmalade...but I'm a fatty and can't have it today... Maybe tomorrow!

manontroppo · 15/05/2023 21:53

Marks and Spencer’s medium cut. I don’t like it too chunky.

But yes, good toast with butter and marmalade is bliss.

gardendream · 15/05/2023 22:04

Roberton’s Silver Shred on lightly golden toast with lurpack butter YUM

Mmmm… how long til breakfast?!

I’m going to have to try Bonne Maman now - I hadn’t noticed marmalade in the shops but love their jams.
