I know nothing about either of them, but this has just made me quite emotional. Well done, Kevin.

Kevin Sinfield carries Rob Burrow over Leeds marathon finish

The Leeds event is named in honour of ex-rugby league player Burrow, who has motor neurone disease.

I’m torn between it being a lovely thing to do and whether it was a bit demeaning to Rob Burrows. The poor man didn’t look very comfortable, despite his illness he’s still an adult man, not a baby.

notprincehamlet · 14/05/2023 17:59

He's raised over £7.5m for mnd charities

Roselilly36 · 14/05/2023 17:59

Made me cry, having known someone that died with MND. An example of pure love for his friend & teammate Rob. Kevin has been amazing to raise so much money for this very worthy cause.

Amazing achievement motivated by love and friendship ❤️

I was watching on the course and had a bit of a moment when they came past.

I do know what you mean, but they have a very close friendship and I don't think either one would ever do anything that would demean the other.

Gassylady · 14/05/2023 18:08

Given that he had completed the rest of the course being pushed in his specially adapted chair and that Rob Burrows’s wife was also running Im sure it is something that they had talked about before the race began.

viques · 14/05/2023 18:10

It looks as thought it had been pre arranged because the stewards are marshalling runners out of the way. It is heartbreaking to see how that evil disease has ravaged the body of someone who was a strong, healthy athlete.

Thanks, I didn’t want to come across as heartless. It just appeared to be a little undignified for the poor man. I’m sure he felt the love though.

SunsetOverEasterIsland · 14/05/2023 18:16

It would be a much better world if everyone had a friend like Kevin Sinfield. He is absolutely amazing. Legend and hero are much over used words in todays society but both apply a million times over to this guy ❤️

usedtobeasizeten · 14/05/2023 18:19

I felt the same Costedchocrabbits to be honest…

KnickerlessParsons · 14/05/2023 18:24

To me, it seemed to make it all about Kevin rather than Rob.

notprincehamlet · 14/05/2023 18:34

They've known each other since they were kids. It was the inaugural Rob Burrow Leeds mara and Kevin ran it pushing Rob to raise funds for a new mnd centre.

Bluebells1970 · 14/05/2023 18:41

I had my heart in my mouth thinking how frail he was to be lifted like that.
I cared for someone with MND in the nursing home where I worked, and moving them was terrifying as they would often have breathing issues. We would often have to get a nurse to supervise handling, just in case.

Didn't strike me as remotely dignified either, regardless of the intention.

Yajebbend · 14/05/2023 18:43

Kevin lives in same village as me and is very humble lovely man. This is lovely

CantFindTheBeat · 14/05/2023 18:47

Rob Burrows can make his thoughts and wishes very well known.

This would have been planned, and has meant that we are all talking about this and raising even more awareness for their cause.

Bloody marvellous people 💕💕💕💕

LiquoriceAllsorts2 · 14/05/2023 20:10

It was probably pre agreed between the two of them; I don’t think kevin would have carried him if Rob didn’t want it.

RJnomore1 · 14/05/2023 20:14

Kevin Sinfeld restores my faith in human nature.

Rob has been on bbc breakfast a lot as has kev, Im certain it would have been discussed between them before hand and Rob wanted it. The palpable love in that short video clip is amazing.

Sirzy · 14/05/2023 20:14

I am a lifelong Saints fan so have cursed this pair on more than one occasion during there careers but they really do sum up friendship.

i have seen this clip many times this afternoon and I have had a tear (or three) in my eye every time

Azealeasinbloom · 14/05/2023 20:22

Have no idea why Kevin Sinfield has not been knighted, although I realise that is not why he does it. Beautiful friendship . Both of them are very special.

There has to be a certain amount of time between honors (I think it’s 5 years but I may be wrong)

no doubt as soon as that time is up it will happen

Coxspurplepippin · 14/05/2023 20:32

Saw the Look North programme about the run. They're both amazing men, but Rob Burrow's bravery, a devastating diagnosis, and he and his family are spending their precious time fundraising to help others with this bloody awful disease.

People like Rob and Doddie Weir give me faith in the human race.

I was running it today so thank you for being out there. The crowd were amazing.

I've seen the video and the photo many times since I've been home. We all need a Kevin.

AnyFucker · 14/05/2023 21:22

Bloody hell that made this stone cold heart melt. I don’t think Rob must have much time left. 😥

@Coatedchocrabbits I felt the same. The love his mate has for him was clear, but I think he should have wheeled him over the finish, not carried him.

It was a shock to see just how frail Rob is now 😢. Life is fucking unfair!!
