Who are you other than “mummy”?

Just thought this would be a nice Sunday thread.

Of course being mummy to someone is great but it isn’t anyone’s entire identity even though it’s easy to get swept up in familial life!

So share your interests/achievements/something fun about yourself!

I loved playing piano for hours when I had the time. I taught myself by listening to songs for hours until I got it right. I ended up quite good.
I enjoy spending time with me and my cats in bed having a good cuddle and giving them lots of attention!
and my biggest achievement I think was surviving domestic violence and being the strong person I am now.

Sister, friend, aunt, head of marketing. That's more than enough for anyone 🙂

elliejjtiny · 14/05/2023 15:29

I love to read kids/young adult books. I love to knit and sew but I'm not very good.

Hardbackwriter · 14/05/2023 15:31

This is a nice thread idea. To pick three of the things I am other than mummy, I am:
a) a member of CAMRA with an incredibly long and boring set of opinions about beer
b) a published academic author who was particularly notably skilled at paleography (not an academic anymore so these skills increasingly dormant, but the books still sit on my shelf!)
c) a maker of very good pavlova

MooseBreath · 14/05/2023 15:37

At the moment, nobody.

I used to be artistic with a passion for dance, music, and art. I was a talented tap and jazz dancer, performed in musicals, played piano and guitar, and did acrylic painting in my spare time. I also enjoyed writing fanfiction (which only my DH knows) and reading psychological thrillers. I quite liked myself.

DH and I are now looking to move back to my home country where we will have far more help with the children, which means I may get myself back a little bit.

You sound like an amazingly interesting person!

Those things will be ingrained in your muscle memory! I hope they bring you joy when you find the time to go back to them.

I am a midwife.
I am a decent cook
and right now, I am exhausted after a weekend cycling and at the horse trials with my family

Februaryschild2023 · 14/05/2023 16:27

This is nice. Have two tinies so absolutely subsumed with motherhood at the moment, but in the dim and distant past I...

  • was a very good writer and journalist
  • a fun drunk and karaeoke partaker
  • had a great memory for details about people's lives

Hoping some of it will come back!

I am a wife, daughter, sister, aunt, friend and nurse. I'm also a student as I'm completing a top up nursing degree.
I'm a bookworm and a swimmer. I'm a Christmas nut and cat lover. I've just recently applied to volunteer at cats protection.

Phos · 14/05/2023 17:21

I have an MFL degree and speak 6 language fluently.

I can play saxophone but very rusty now. I got a bit "burnt out" music-wise at school.

I love reading psychological thrillers, books set in Middle East and sometimes YA novels.

I love to bake but I don't want to end up with too many baked goods to eat so I have to rein that in.

I used to be pretty fit, enjoy gym, run 10k frequently and swim well. I can now do none of those things and struggle with my weight.

justprance · 14/05/2023 18:20

I am a teacher, a social butterfly, a feminist, a swimmer, a sister and an awesome hugger.

I am an enthusiastic student.

I am a newbie to yoga.

I shall soon be retiring my uterus, after a long, hardworking career. If I am honest, I am frightened about this.

I am trying to regain my love of books and take control of my weight.

Eminybob · 14/05/2023 18:25

A pretty competent people manager
A good cook
A gym goer (a recent thing and I'm really enjoying it, wish I had joined years ago)

SunshineLollipopsAndRainbows · 14/05/2023 18:31

Great thread OP!
I an a daughter, wife, sister, niece, cousin, carer & (I hope) very good friend to many. I have friends older & younger than me.
I am a purple belt in karate although sadly now completely unfit. Working on that though!
I play the piano & am about to start recording requests for some of my friends & colleagues. Music is absolutely one of my most precious things & I am so thankful for my gift. From about age 3 I was able to pick out tunes on the piano, even if I had only heard them once. I didn’t have formal lessons until age 6.

meow1989 · 14/05/2023 18:34

I'm a senior professional in a field not everyone could work in from an emotional perspective

Have a very professional office job.

Love heavy metal music.

Brewskipa · 14/05/2023 18:37

I’m an avid reader and enjoy self care and meditation, it’s becoming quite a big part of my identity. I’m a hard worker who is skilled, apparently, at bringing people together and getting the best out of any discussion.

anon12093 · 14/05/2023 18:37

I honestly don't know who I am anymore
