BST Hyde Park this summer - any tips?

I got caught up in Ticket master system when looking for tickets for La Del Rey. The thrill of getting into the waiting room and the rapidly decreasing number in online queue in front of me meant I paid way more than I intended to and got 2 tickets.

I have managed to get hotel for 2 nights as we are travelling a long way (how much!!!!!) and sorted train tickets (another gulp at the cost!!)

Having recovered from the total cost so far, have decided to go for it and embrace it all.
It's dd's first big gig and she is hyper.

Anyone been before and any tips for us?

Choose which stage you want before you arrive subject to which artists you want to see and get to that stage way before their start time if you can!

Comfy shoes!!

Lots of tissues and sanitiser for the loos 😉

Hand fan for if it gets hot.

Keep phone and £ somewhere no-one can access it if your attention is distracted.

Enjoy!!

Ginismyfriend · 14/05/2023 13:27

There is minimal shade so if it’s a hot day, definitely hats. We fried last year. But it’s very well-organised and lots of great food!

Holidayheaven2 · 14/05/2023 13:39

Ooh, a blanket to sit on & sunglasses.

Queues for the loos can be long so plan accordingly in order to miss an act.

Baxdream · 14/05/2023 13:42

Upgrade to summer garden if you can. We did it last year on the day. It's so much better!

TastesLikeStrawberriesOnASummerEvening · 14/05/2023 13:44

No, but I'm seeing Billy Joel in Hyde Park so piggybacking for general tips!
I was just going to rock up and hope for the best.

Haribosweets · 14/05/2023 14:16

I went few years ago - not sure why but my friends and I had no signal even with different networks. For that reason keep together! I went to loo and bar and couldn't remember where we were sat and no way of ringing them!

@Baxdream can I ask how you upgraded on the day? And was it extortionate?

Baxdream · 14/05/2023 14:31

I think it was £20 each. We did it for pearl jam- I'm sure it would be harder/more expensive for something like Adele last year.

Baxdream · 14/05/2023 14:31

There's a hut by the entrance for ticket upgrades

xyzandabc · 14/05/2023 14:43

Thank you, I got tickets to Bruce Springsteen for DH birthday. Will look out for the hut but not hold my breath! This is a really useful thread.

Baxdream · 14/05/2023 14:46

@xyzandabc we went there straight away, it's the same place as ticket collection but certainly worth a try!

Cheeseandlobster · 14/05/2023 14:47

Sit outside with a picnic and a few beers until around 3 - 4pm. Its lovely and relaxed, you can still hear the music and it saves a fortune

Assignedtoworryyourmother · 14/05/2023 14:48

Marble Arch station is closed at the end of the night so check out where you need to go.
We normally take caps from drinks bottles as they take them when they give you water, but last year it was in cans which was a bit grim.
As pps have said, it is insanely hot usually and there is no shade. Hats, suncream, something to cover exposed shoulders.

We’ve got tickets for Lana del Rey on 9th July
im a bit clueless - is it just her or different artists and stages like a mini festival?

There are 2 stages and usually a mini music space. The great oak stage is the one she will be on. There are usually 5ish support bands starting from doors open time. Bands on the other stage are usually less well know but not always. I think that stage finishes before the main act comes on the great oak stage.

Holidayheaven2 · 14/05/2023 15:10

@Assignedtoworryyourmother This is so true. I’ve managed to catch The1975, George Ezra, Ed Sheeran, Chvurches & Tom O’Dell before they made it big.

Oh how I miss those days of freedom!

Chompiemompie · 14/05/2023 16:53

Fab, thanks folks.
Due to my enthusiasm we have golden circle Hyde away??

We are staying over near King's Cross so need to plan homeward trip.

My main concern is that dd us coeliac and that there won't be safe food for her and not allowed to bring food in.

Do what we did and eat a picnic before you go in.

Stopsnowing · 08/07/2023 12:33

@Chompiemompie also paid over the odds for tickets to take dd. Gold circle but not hideaway.

TastesLikeStrawberriesOnASummerEvening · 08/07/2023 12:48

They let me keep my water and food last night, I probably just got lucky.
No patting down either so just shove stuff in your clothes.

Chompiemompie · 31/07/2023 23:39

@Stopsnowing hey there. what did you think of it.
we loved it - a very special perfect day for us.

OP posts:
Stopsnowing · 02/08/2023 19:54

We were very squashed at the front and Lana voice drowned out by the fans! I would go again but not make huge effort to be at the front!

Chompiemompie · 06/08/2023 22:07

@Stopsnowing That is a shame! we werent right at the barrier but very close and it wasnt too bad where we were. we did have a group of young women who sat down the whoel way through it which was tricky to avod them getting squashed. we loved it and were some of the crowd who sang along to it all. i loved father john misty's set too. we only caught some of Syml but liked him too. we spent a fair bit of time at the start in the garden hydeaway which was lovely. would definiently do it again but have spent another fortune on tickets for other gigs this year so will have to see what is happening next year!

TastesLikeStrawberriesOnASummerEvening · 07/08/2023 03:30

Ha, I've since spent a fortune on more tickets, on top of the ones I already had!
I'm surprised the Stewards allowed the sitting down, at Harry Styles, Murrayfield the fans weren't allowed to do that in groups, it takes up too much room.
