How quickly did you get engaged?

Just being nosy. A friend has recently got engaged after five weeks - which sounds insane but they knew each other throughout childhood and growing up, and stayed in touch then got together casually, broke up and reconnected again recently. And they're absolutely perfect for each other, we all said they would always end up together so it doesn't feel crazy...

Whereas I was with my other half for ten years before we got engaged! It just got me thinking about how it's so different for everyone and I wondered what the average kind of time is - I'm guessing we are both very opposite ends of the spectrum!

10 years and married now 16

14 months and married 7 months after that.

With ExH we got engaged after four months. We didn't know each other before that and we were only 24. He was my first serious boyfriend. In retrospect it was an idiotic decision. We sadly divorced after 18 years together.

I've been with my current DP 3½ years and there's no sign of us even moving into together let alone getting engaged. We both went through very sad divorces.

It seems utterly bonkers to me personally that people think they know someone well enough to commit to marry them after a matter of weeks. Of course some do work out, happily so, but goodness me. I suppose though that anyone has the potential to surprise you, at any point.
As for me, DH proposed when we’d been together 2.5 years and we married 6 months later.

2 years, and 20 years later and never married.

14 months. We weren’t strangers when we started dating though, we were colleagues. Married ten years and stronger than ever.

6 weeks. I was 17 he was 23. Lots of muttering from family saying we were too young & didn't know what we were doing. Married 3 years later after saving, finding & buying a house. Now together over 35 years.

6 weeks at ages me 18 and dh 21. Crazy really but nearly 50 years later still together and still very happy.

Together a year then married a year after that. I was almost 30 when we met which probably had something to do with the decision. I think things seem to move quicker when you get to a certain age. My friends that married younger had longer engagements. Married 9 years this year

When we had been dating 6 weeks.

3 weeks - about to celebrate our silver wedding anniversary

First proper date in July, engaged next NYE, and married that May.

8 weeks, married 8 months after meeting.
We have been married almost 19 years.

On the first day. Sounds crazy but we had been an item for 4 years before splitting up, for 5 years. We met, discovered nobody we had met in the interim measured up, and decided that day to get married. That was 37 years ago and we are solidly happy together.

7 months, I was 20 years old.

Five weeks. We were engaged for four year though - as we couldn't afford to get married straightaway. We just knew. We've been together almost twenty years.

About 10 days - 32 years ago. Still together.

We'd only known each other 10 days when we got engaged. We got married about 4 months later.

6 years, but we got together at 17

25 years

Moved in after 80 days.
Engaged after 6 months.

9 years but we met young. 5 weeeks is utter madness

A year first time round, two years second time.
