To think it just tastes better from a can?

Diet coke or Pepsi max just isn't the same from the bottle! Does the can keep it fizzier or fresher??

BorryMum · 11/05/2023 09:15

Absolutely! I can't drink it from bottles

IVFNewbie · 11/05/2023 09:16

yes, for sure. Although 'red' coke is the best from a glass bottle.

youngestisapsycho · 11/05/2023 09:17

Yes, I only like from a can... or the glass bottles you get in restaurants/pubs.

Hierarchy of coke drinking.

  1. Glass bottle
  2. Can
  3. Plastic large sized bottle decanted.
  4. Pump at bars/fast food places
Picklewicklepickle · 11/05/2023 09:18

Fountain > glass bottles > cans > plastic bottles

GretaGood · 11/05/2023 09:20

My theory - a bottle needs tipped more to drink from it , constantly tipping and letting it fall back loses fizz and makes it flatter - same for beer

Skybluepinky · 11/05/2023 10:04

Totally agree, can or glass bottle.

tatteddear · 11/05/2023 10:07

100% better from a can but the holy grail is an old fashioned glass bottle

lunaloveroo · 11/05/2023 10:25

Definitely a can. I also prefer the slimmer cans and think it tastes nicer.

MeinKraft · 11/05/2023 10:29

Cans keep it cooler I think? Although McDonald's coke is top tier. Actually their Coke Zero is delicious, it tastes nothing like the Coke Zero you get in cans.

Flopsythebunny · 11/05/2023 10:37

Please don't drink directly from a can or bottle. I've seen the rats running around and peeing on the packaging in the warehouses. The plastic covering the trays is often ripped.

I agree can is better for most fizzy drinks.

I occasionally treat myself to a slim can of coke its lovely.

LadyKenya · 11/05/2023 10:42

I never drink coke out of a can if possible, it is out of a glass bottle for me, or nothing!

foodtoorder · 11/05/2023 10:43

Pepsi max should only ever be drunk if Diet Coke isn't available.

It definitely tastes better from a can or glass bottle.

I'm the exact opposite of @foodtoorder 😂 Pepsi max has been my favourite drink since I was a child, I'd rather go without than drink Diet Coke!

I think coke on an airplane is the top trumps of coke. It’s heavenly. Seems to taste like nectar. The bubbles are different. Don’t know know if it’s just me or some scientific reason?

Maddy70 · 11/05/2023 11:00

No. Much better from a bottle than a can. I can taste the metal

Ostryga · 11/05/2023 11:03

McDonald’s fat coke is top tier.

Then cans, then pub pump, glass bottle at the bottom. I don’t know why it just tastes wrong to me. Only from a plastic big bottle if I’m getting a dirty kebab after a night out!

It will be a bubbly altitude sciencey thing 😃 I had a fanta on a recent flight and it was delicious.

😱

Don't worry too much - rats climb all over the trolleys at the supermarket, the pallettes food is delivered on, the warehouse it's stored in and just about everywhere from the field in which the ingredients are sourced until it gets on to the shop floor or your home. They're ubiquitous in life, especially where food is kept/ grown/ stored and produced!

Fountain > glass bottles > cans > plastic bottles

This is the correct order 🥤

It's probably due to the pressure differential between the bubbles at ground level when produced and that at altitude when you open and drink it. Does that sound sciency enough for you? Smile

Although they say that food loses it's taste at altitude so airline food is manufactured to take this into account, with more salt and spices. So it probably wouldn't be nice at ground level.

You can illustrate the pressure difference by closing the lid on an empty plastic bottle on a plane then keeping it with you until you land. The higher pressure at ground level crushes the bottle.

I don't drink Coke but do buy a lot of tonic water to go in G&Ts. Canned tonic water is nicer and fizzier than that in plastic bottles. Shame it's so much more expensive, especially as I avoid artificial sweeteners, so am pretty much limited to Fever Tree, now that Waitrose have discontinued their canned tonic water.

Although I can sometimes find small glass bottles of rarer brands in Home Bargains etc cheaply, so buy those when I can as they're better than plastic bottled tonic too.
