Why does a cup of tea taste so good after a long day out?!

Just that.

We just got in from a long day out. I stuck the kettle on. Poured a cup of tea. Boy did it taste good.

I’m sure it tastes far far better than a cuppa I have on an average day in?

Anyone else?

It does. I don't know why. But it absolutely does.

Howtohideasausage · 08/05/2023 18:00

It’s a truth. Again, no idea why-the caffeine?

MaryJean87 · 08/05/2023 18:00

Definitely. I love tea, it's refreshing and relaxing at the same time.

100% agree. Nothing better than a hot cup of tea after a long day x

Daisysdandy · 08/05/2023 18:01

Mid afternoon cuppa my fave

NormaTheWife · 08/05/2023 18:01

Tea - the best drink of the day!

devildeepbluesea · 08/05/2023 18:02

It tastes vile, just like tea does all the time 🤢

Nice cup of coffee on the other hand…

gogogoji · 08/05/2023 18:59

I don't drink tea but I get it. It's the association. That cup of tea is associated with relaxing after work so it is triggering more than just your taste buds

SummerHouse · 08/05/2023 19:01

Yes I feel this. Also myst mention the tea and toast I had after having DS. It was the most beautiful snack and drink I have ever tasted!

GreyCarpet · 08/05/2023 19:15

It's because you're old!

It doesn't matter where I've been or what I've been doing, the first thing I do when I get in is have a cup of tea. It's like the post birth cup of tea everytime! 🤣

MissHoney85 · 08/05/2023 19:22

I have a theory that the appeal of tea is much more around the routines associated with it than the actual taste. There's something a bit therapeutic about the familiarity of it, the way it makes you slow down a bit and all the associations built up over time with particular places and people.

And @GreyCarpet oh yes I do remember the midwife saying to me during the birth of dc1 that I could have a cup of tea once Dc arrived. I rememebr it giving me a kick of motivation. 🤣

I agree. One of the downsides of working from home is that the tea never tastes as good as it does when you get home after a long day at the office!

Snoopsnoggysnog · 08/05/2023 20:18

It’s also because today has been so grey and miserable, and pretty chilly for May! (South east)

MissVinted · 08/05/2023 20:24

During the first lockdown I started drinking a cup of tea before bedtime. It's one of my most favourite ways to relax now. I don't really like tea any other time of day. Nice strong cafe with hot milk in the morning. These two keep me going.

BanditsOnTheHorizon · 08/05/2023 20:28

The frost cup of tea in the morning is absolutely delicious

morelippy · 08/05/2023 20:29

And another thing... why does tea taste so different drunk outdoors?

Peanutbutteryday · 08/05/2023 20:45

@Snoopsnoggysnog and @morelippy yes (also south east!) and yes

I sometimes fancy a cup of tea before bed too! But worry about the caffeine keeping me up. Maybe it’s so low it wouldn’t impact? I’d say I’m generally ok with caffeine

I find a hot cup of tea at the end of the day so comforting. Nothing better.

SmallandSpanish · 08/05/2023 20:50

First cup of tea in the morning is the same. Mana from the gods.

tailinthejam · 08/05/2023 20:50

There is nothing better than a nice cup of tea and sit down after a taxing day out and about.

(I reckon cups of tea were pretty high on the agenda at Buck House when they got back there on Saturday afternoon!)

Davros · 08/05/2023 20:52

Mmm first cup of tea of the day. And in the afternoon. And at night.
It's my favourite drink, even better than wine, pint of lager, G&T

Ha that’s true. Suspect they won’t have the Yorkshire tea that I do though.

Absolutely.

And the best tea is when you come home after a couple of days away, regardless of how much tea you have drunk while on your trip.
