Why does a cup of tea taste so good after a long day out?!

Just that.

We just got in from a long day out. I stuck the kettle on. Poured a cup of tea. Boy did it taste good.

I’m sure it tastes far far better than a cuppa I have on an average day in?

Anyone else?

That's funny- I was wondering exactly the same myself today. Nice day out- good coffee mid morning and a nice beer with a late lunch/early tea but the cuppa DH made when we got in was amazing!

I also really enjoy the occasional ones I have outside when I'm gardening too! I do love tea though

BarrelOfOtters · 08/05/2023 20:59

I love tea. Drink A Lot. That cup of tea when you get home is the best. Or the cup of tea half way round a walk.

Deathraystare · 09/05/2023 11:05

It is great any time of day! We have Earl Grey at our bookclub. We drink quite a bit of it!

We always joke that it’s worth going out just so we can be happy to come home and have a cuppa!

ginghamstarfish · 25/07/2023 11:35

I agree with a PP, it's not just the actual drinking, it's the routine of making tea, the habit of drinking it at certain times, not sure if we get slightly addicted to the whole thing.

refreshingseahorse · 25/07/2023 11:42

Diminishing returns, first cup of tea is amazing, second is very nice, third is pleasant, fourth is only OK, by the fifth you start to feel a bit sick.

ManchesterLu · 25/07/2023 12:02

Because we associate tea with relaxation .. and relaxation is needed the most at the end of a long day. Dreamy, isn't it!

It's because you're old!

It doesn't matter where I've been or what I've been doing, the first thing I do when I get in is have a cup of tea. It's like the post birth cup of tea everytime! 🤣

I came on the thread to mention the post birth cup of tea. It was over 40 years ago now but the best cup of tea ever.
The next best is the cup of tea when you get back from holiday. DH wants to unpack first but I put the kettle on and water the plants while it brews - priorities!

They ruined my post birth cuppa Sad put milk in it when I'd taken great pains to emphasise black tea, I'm still not over it Angry

It the essence.

Do not attempt to understand, accept the Truth.

Windercar · 25/07/2023 22:51

It tastes like flopping on the sofa in joy after a long exhausting day.

Kimfluencer · 25/07/2023 22:52

I had a cup of tea after coming home from a non-tea drinking holiday destination yesterday. It was divine.

Amazing. Tea abroad is never the same!

Tea is the only genuine magical beverage I know of - it changes to suit any situation. Too hot - a cuppa will cool you down. Too cold - a cuppa will warm you up. Upset? Tea. Happy? Tea. In shock? Tea. Tired after a long day? Tea.

Coffee doesn't even have a fraction of tea's power.

HRTQueen · 25/07/2023 23:27

The best tea is when you get back from holiday abroad

it’s worth going away for

IVFlife · 25/07/2023 23:28

first one of the morning is the best

HRTQueen · 25/07/2023 23:29

HerAvatar you may have a number of years still until you come to terms with this

I’m 50 and my mum still mentions about not getting a cup of tea for a few hours after I was born

SwedishEdith · 25/07/2023 23:35

The best tea is the one you have with a cooked breakfast or with fish and chips. Something about the way fresh hot tea cuts through the grease.

Toohotforchips · 25/07/2023 23:40

Is it the warmth? The cupping your hands around your favourite mug? The anticipation that comes from waiting for the kettle to boil? The nostalgia of teas past? The familiarity and comfort of that? Added to that the beneficial effects of those flavonoids? And maybe the little sigh of relaxation that hundreds of tiny tea leaves let out when the hot water is poured on them? There's nothing else like it.

Came on to say this.
A mug of tea with fish'n'chips, especially if you had to queue on a rainy Friday 'tea time' (blatant northern pun) and it continues to pour down outside..
Bliss.

CaptainMyCaptain · 26/07/2023 07:15

Humble Pie (pie shop) in Whitby serves pie, mash and mushy peas with a mug of Yorkshire tea. Perfect.

JoanThursday · 26/07/2023 07:22

Yup, has to be Yorkshire Tea! Am gasping for a brew now.

Deathraystare · 26/07/2023 13:56

To be fair it tastes good anytime of day! I can go from having one in a cafe to going home and making one and thinking Tea! Lovely!
