Does he use your tax allowance too? Do you work?

HaroldeVwilliam · 04/05/2023 19:56

Yes I work, no tax allowance but he works from home mostly 5 days a week and goes to the office once a week

Just under 40k if there's no pension / student loan deductions? Does he get overtime pay?

I am on 42560 and bring home £2540 after tax, pension, student loan, ni.

SwirlyShirly · 04/05/2023 19:58

44560 sorry not 42

BarbaraofSeville · 04/05/2023 19:58

When I earned £40k, I took home around £2400 after pension contributions.

Does he get a car or shift allowance, something like that?

SleepingStandingUp · 04/05/2023 19:59

So do you think he's lying about his salary or his wage? Why are yo u questioning it?

Could it be student loans, CMS, anything else taken directly?

Probably easier to ask to see a pay cheque.

SweetSakura · 04/05/2023 20:00

It's not clear what your concern is.? Are you doubting DH income?

The same gross salary can result in very different net salaries for a multiplicity of reasons

HaroldeVwilliam · 04/05/2023 20:01

Definitely more student loans.
No cms our dc are his only.

No shifts, 9 / 5.30.and the odd over time... Which he said wouid get him 30 quid or something.

He used to get around 2400 ish but since December it's gone up?

But assuming he's making pension contributions, I'd have thought he'd be in the mid 40s to take home that amount, or maybe slightly more if he has student loan repayments, or high pension contributions.

Is he sure about his salary? But he can work it out from his pay slip can't he? Or is he looking at his taxable salary on his P60, ie after pension contributions?

YerAWizardHarry · 04/05/2023 20:02

Depending on pension and student loans it’d be upwards of £40K

BarbaraofSeville · 04/05/2023 20:02

Pay rise?

Jk987 · 04/05/2023 20:03

Why doesn't he tell you?

TeaKitten · 04/05/2023 20:05

Do you think he is hiding something or that they are paying him wrong? Can’t he just show you his payslip?

TwoCoffeesPlease · 04/05/2023 20:05

It depends on whether or not you have a student loan and what your pension contributions are.

I take home £2600 and make £47k but I make 6.8% pension contributions and have a Plan 1 Student Loan. Student repayments are currently £188/month.

WeAreTheHeroes · 04/05/2023 20:05

I'm on £42k ish (I am crap and don't know the exact figure without checking a payslip and it's all online) and take home almost that after pension contributions. I get private healthcare as a benefit which has an impact on my tax code.

HaroldeVwilliam · 04/05/2023 20:06

@BarbaraofSeville

No student loans or any deduction.

No car allowance or anything.

OP posts:
BarbaraofSeville · 04/05/2023 20:11

Well if he takes home £2600 from £37k he's not paying enough tax. Or else his salary is quite a bit more than £37k.

What does his tax code say? It should be 1257L.

What is the background to this? <intrigued>

HaroldeVwilliam · 04/05/2023 20:13

The background is that I'm intrigued as to what the hell my husband is earning!!

I have no idea what his tax code is..

OP posts:
HaroldeVwilliam · 04/05/2023 20:15

It fluctuate a little each month

triplechocbrownie · 04/05/2023 20:15

Has he told you he's earns a certain salary but you've seen bank statements with his monthly payments or something?

SleepingStandingUp · 04/05/2023 20:16

Just ask him for a pay slip.

I can't imagine if DH told me he'd got a pay rise to demand to know the new monthly total and then doing the math to check he's telling the truth.

mindutopia · 04/05/2023 20:18

I think I take home about £2500 ish (it just went up and honestly I don’t know as I got paid a weird bonus the past 2 months as previous underpayment) and I make £40k ish a year.

Annon1234 · 04/05/2023 20:18

My husband earns £2510 a month and earns £40k, no student loans just tax, ni and pension

mindutopia · 04/05/2023 20:20

That said, if you asked me what my pre-tax salary is for my grade I would have said £46k (I work PT but that’s the 1.0FTE). I just looked it up and it’s £51k! So i obviously have no idea what I earn.

I would imagine your Dh has had some CoL increases (we have) and probably doesn’t actually know what is true salary is.
