Does your family have any quirks?

We share one drink for 3 people if watching tv.Just water or soft drinks, never hot drinks or alchohol. The glass will get filled as and when but its only ever one glass.

Don't know how it started but it's so normal to us now.
We're weird aren't we?

I mean we have our own individual hot drinks and alcoholic drinks

Do you not worry about passing on illness if one of you is coming down with something?

Myfuckingredtrousers · 03/05/2023 23:16

Yuck 🤢🤣

LotsOfBalloons · 03/05/2023 23:41

Er..

PrincessHoneysuckle · 04/05/2023 07:52

My family used to do this when growing up, share drinks. I'm not entirely sure why but can only assume as there were 6 of us it was to save on washing up!

Skybluepinky · 04/05/2023 09:06

Vile

Yes, that is very weird. You remind me of Rowley's family in diary of a wimpy kid where they all share an ice cream!

ClarissaExplainsSome · 04/05/2023 09:10

Backwash... 😷

GeraltsBathtub · 04/05/2023 09:31

We don’t do that on purpose but if DP sits down with a good drink I’ll often nick some of it instead of getting up to get my own. We are sharing germs anyway!

newnamethanks · 04/05/2023 09:49

Yes. Weird.

Florin · 04/05/2023 10:21

Happily share with my dh not with my 10 year old son as he is grim, oh dear god the back washes

AnIncreasingNumberOfPaws · 04/05/2023 10:25

I mean, I’d want my own drink, but it’s hardly ‘vile’ to have a drink after your partner and kids. 🙄

Bookist · 04/05/2023 10:29

I'm still comfortable appearing naked in front of my now grown up daughter, and she's fine with it too. She doesn't appear naked in front of me and that's also absolutely fine. In contrast she hasn't seen DH naked since she was about 18 months old 😆

HoldingTheDoor · 04/05/2023 10:33

Do you also have a communal trough for meals?

HoldingTheDoor · 04/05/2023 10:35

Seriously though, why just why? How big is this cup? Surely you'd be filling it constantly with all of you drinking from it? Does backwash mean nothing to you? What happens if you want different drinks?

marrymeadam · 04/05/2023 10:43

I'd be worried I would be the one left with the bit at the end and always be left with refilling

Kittykatchunjy · 04/05/2023 10:45

Jeez that's just yuk

Ramunea · 04/05/2023 10:56

I don’t even like sharing my drink with my own kids because of the risk of backwash.

@Bookist I was the same with my family. Grew up with 6 sisters and mother and we often walked around in our underwear around each other comfortably growing up. Even sometimes now although I personally don’t.

Rufusroo · 04/05/2023 10:58

People saying this is disgusting puzzle me - you share a bed together, possibly finish kids leftovers maybe eat food from partners plate, kiss each other etc but slurping a drink from the same glass is gross??

TheChosenTwo · 04/05/2023 10:59

Oh that makes me want to heave 🤢
I don’t share drinks with ANYONE! Just grim!
I’m sure we have quirks but I can’t think of anything right now. Certainly not gross ones 😂

TheChosenTwo · 04/05/2023 11:01

@Rufusroo I share a bed with dh but wouldn’t eat anything from his plate or the dc’s leftovers!
I Don’t want to drink anyone’s backwash and I don’t think that’s particularly unusual. No matter how much you think no one does it, although it’s not intentional there will still be some.
ds’s drinks often used to be more food than drink 😂

goodkidsmaadhouse · 04/05/2023 11:22

Surprised people are getting so up in arms about this! I would gladly share a drink with the rest of my family and we often drink from one water bottle when hiking for example. When we go for ice cream we all lick each others’ to try the different flavours which I would have thought was fairly standard behaviour?!

No doubt we do have quirks but I can’t really think what they’d be since everything we do is normal to us…

Tiddlypomtiddlypom · 04/05/2023 11:36

Oh. Really weird. I imagine you all sleep like the Charlie Bucket’s family, too.

Tiddlypomtiddlypom · 04/05/2023 11:36
