Alcohol free gin

RampantIvy · 02/05/2023 19:25

I know this has been done to death, but a quick search in mumsnet hasn't really produced the result I'm looking for.

Can anyone recommend an alcohol free gin that tastes better than the abomination that is Gordon's Alcohol Free gin please?

I particularly like the juniper taste of gin, but Gordon's just tastes of artificial lemon flavouring. I don't think it has been near a juniper berry.

Thank you in advance.

Thank you @AinmÁlainn. I have just googled it, and it sounds promising.

I bought some Gordon's & Tonic cans without realising they were alcohol-free. I only drank one of them. Water or just tonic water tastes better.

Parisj · 02/05/2023 19:37

I have seen Pentire recommended, they seem to use some botanicals in it

Dartmoorcheffy · 02/05/2023 19:40

Whitley Neill do an alcohol free raspberry gin

RampantIvy · 02/05/2023 19:44

Thank you @Dartmoorcheffy, but I'm not keen on flavoured gins. I prefer juniper tasting gins like Gordon's, Bombay Sapphire, Tanqueray etc.

If alcohol free isn't critical and just lower alcohol would be good enough then Haymans Small Gin is so good. It tastes just like the real thing and is 0.2 units a drink.

CurlewKate · 02/05/2023 19:46

I was just coming on to say I think Gordon's Alcohol is as good if not better than the alcohol-y one. But maybe not!!

Beebumble2 · 02/05/2023 19:49

This from M&S, it’s only £3.20.

The tanqueray 0% gin is actually really nice. I drank it throughout my pregnancy - I went totally off juice and it was the only thing that could quench my thirst in the evening 😂 As long as you have it with a decent tonic and wedge of lime I think it's a really good substitute. I'll continue to drink it even now baby is here.

These are good:

I had a sample of one, I think it was Clean but when I had it with tonic it tasted of tonic, no gin taste at all

Thereshegoesagain · 02/05/2023 20:07

Tanqueray is lovely.

Backwithanotheroneofthoseblockrockingbeats · 02/05/2023 20:32

Another vote for Tanqueray and it's only £12 in Morrisons!!

RampantIvy · 02/05/2023 20:36

Thank you everyone. I'll try the Tanqueray first as Morrisons is easy to get to.

I spent too much money and energy on alcohol free gin and gave up. I think they are all rank and that alcohol is a critical part of gin. Like wine. I can only deal with alcohol free beer, otherwise I would rather have a sparkling water.

I totally agree. Every single one I've tried has been rubbish and not worth the money. I prefer just having the tonic water with ice and a slice of lemon/lime/grapefruit/blood orange etc.

Bluevelvetsofa · 02/05/2023 21:24

Another vote for Tanqueray. Excellent!

I love blood orange. I gave up when dp pointed out that my expenditure during my last pregnancy had hit £180 and I never had a second drink of any of them. He reminded me it was the same the first time round and I realised I have actually spent too much on this nonsense. Never again!

AtomicBlondeRose · 02/05/2023 21:30

When I was pregnant I sometimes used to pour gin in a glass and swirl it round, pour it back out and fill the glass with tonic. It smells like a G&T and tastes almost the same!

I was going to suggest this one, not that I've tried it but the people on Saturday Kitchen loved it and felt it was as close to a gin gin as it could be

SourDoughToast · 02/05/2023 21:45

Another vote for those Tesco ones in a can - I've tried loads of AF gins and weirdly the Tesco ones taster way better than all the expensive ones I've had!

RampantIvy · 02/05/2023 21:53

I have tried the Tesco ones and was very unimpressed.

The Pentire tasted like swamp water (or how I imagine swamp water would taste!) The swilling of a bit round the glass and topping with tonic was the best solution I found personally but a lot of people seem to like the Tanqueray.

(I don't drink any commercially available alcohol free products anymore- its either the real thing or a soft drink / mocktail.)
