I used to watch his show when I was young. He always came across as fun and that he didn't take himself too seriously.

@SerafinasGoose - actually not the American Jeremy Kyle, or Trisha and the rest.

Beanfield2023 · 27/04/2023 22:55

Spring back Springer

I liked his show. It was open about being trashy and exploitative, which was a refreshing change compared to the likes of Rikki Lake and Oprah which pretended to be classy but were really just as trashy and exploitative as Springer.

Totally agree!

I never watched his show but I always liked him. He was very interesting and intelligent. Iirc he was Mayor of Milwaukee at one time (German connection?)

I’m shocked at the love for him.

He made a fortune out of exploiting people.

His show was all fake though. It wasn't real.

Yes, he kicked some nazi types off of his show once. They said something about they'd kill his family in theory or something like that and he told them to go

He did more than that he actually went for them , The only time I ever saw him lose it.

The American Jeremy Kyle.

Exactly he made a career from exploiting people's vulnerable moments. Fucking awful show.

Needmorelego · 30/04/2023 13:53

@Mephisneon the thing is the Jerry Springer Show ran for 27 years. Pretty much anyone who chose to go in in the last 26 years of its run knew what they were getting in to.

I hadn't realised his parents were German Jews who were fleeing the Holocaust. He had relatives who died in the Nazi gas chambers.

I always remember him saying his parents kept a car long after they were too old to drive so they could 'flee' if necessary 😢

I'm saddened by his passing in a way I'm not usually with celebrities.

@Fourecks apparently he did an episode of Who Do You Think You Are which was very emotional.
I haven't seen it - I'm going to have to see if I can find it somewhere to watch.
For those saying he exploited people with his TV show - most probably wanted their 15 minutes of fame. The show ran for years so most people knew what they were getting into. They still chose to go on.

I saw this episode. His history is very similar to my father's. So I have the most enormous affection and love for him.

RIP.

That's heartbreaking.

I do get what people are saying about the show being exploitative (although I agree at least it was open about it). I didn't know anything about Jerry Springer except for the show so it's really moved me to hear about his family's story.

I met him once and had my pic taken with him. It was when I was doing a year at university in the USA. He was there for some talk or event at the Law School so me and a few friends dashed over to see if we could see him.
He was really nice.
