Games night ideas

Shamelessly looking for ideas for my games night!

I've had the lightbulb idea of hosting a little games night for 4 adults tomorrow night but my collection consists of monopoly and top of the pops 😂

Can anyone recommend any board games I can pic up from Argos or somewhere like that?

We've done cards against humanity to death as well 🤦🏻‍♀️

Looking at on what's available on amazon for Next Day delivery, I heartily recommend Ticket to Ride. Throw Throw Burrito is fun and lighthearted but won't sustain a whole evening. If you can find Carcassone that's a great one that's very easy to learn.

What do you meme is funny. I'd suggest Pandemic, Catan, Lords of Waterdeep but if you've never played them before it might get in the way of socialising.

BibbleandSqwauk · 27/04/2023 17:21

Oh yes TtR is v good and pretty simple .especially if you ignore the tunnel aspect which we did the first couple of times. I could never make sense of Burrito beyond the kids lobbing them at each other.

Catan! It's easy to learn, competitive without leading to misery like monopoly and lasts a reasonable amount of time. It's the perfect game night board game.

We have a monthly games night and favourites include bananagrams, categorically speaking, and the little travel sized version of Richard Osman house of games was brilliant, although you can only play it once really, as you'll remember all the answers. It was only about a tenner though.

Articulate is good. Pictionary is a bit marmite, but DS and I like it.

Create a pub quiz?

Underground is great.

wrinkleintime · 27/04/2023 17:43

Ticket to Ride.

Everyone who I've ever introduced to it has loved it. It's easy to learn and doesn't take too long to play (maybe 1-1.5 hours)

Get the Europe edition if you can, it's the best version.

ModerationInEverything · 27/04/2023 17:44

Articulate or Linkee. Both are great fun.

wrinkleintime · 27/04/2023 17:44

Also Azul is a really lovely, fairly relaxing and chilled out game which is quite addictive. 4 is the ideal number for it. Takes 20-30 minutes to play once you've learned the rules.

Taskmaster
Richard Osman's House of Games

Rumikub, catan, barenpark sequence, quirkle are my current favourites. Also love games with normal park of cards:rummy, gin rummy, whist, niggly etc

LadyJ2023 · 27/04/2023 17:54

Exploding kittens, P for pizza, labyrinth, ticket to ride, quirkle, blokus!

Not all board games but a few different types.

Exploding kittens is quite quick to pick up and hilarious.

Pandemic! Takes about an hour and you all work together to beat the game. If you're all completely new to "modern" boardgames, then try "Forbidden Island" first (which is very similar but simpler and faster),

Heroicallyfound · 27/04/2023 19:48

Forbidden Desert - it’s a collab game so good friendly fun and you sort of battle against the game (the storm). It’s pretty easy to pick up

Actually Forbidden Desert must be one of the sister game to Forbidden Island @SertralineAndTherapy ?

SertralineAndTherapy · 27/04/2023 19:50

@Heroicallyfound Great minds and all that.... Forbidden Desert is the sequel to Forbidden Island!
