Hair rollers in public

Say for arguments sake you had an event on Friday night that you wanted curly hair for, and also say for arguments sake that you have a toddler who needs exercising like a boxer puppy.. Would you feel comfortable going out to the park and such with your hair looking like the attached picture? If you saw someone in the park with their hair like that would you judge them or think I bet her hair is going to look nice tonight? The picture is definitely not me by the way

You have to put a head scarf on like women did in the 40s/50s.
Thems the rules 🙂

RuthW · 26/04/2023 16:50

I wouldn't notice. I'd just think it was how you wanted your hair today.

SpongeBobJudgeyPants · 26/04/2023 16:54

Rollers, no, IMHO. I think that looks different though, and ok. Maybe tie the ribbon/cloth at the back in a bow? Might look more 'done'.

I would come and ask you how you had made one of these things work as I cannot for the life of me manage it!

GrimDamnFanjo · 26/04/2023 17:15

Take a trip to Liverpool at a weekend and it's really common to se young girls in rollers getting ready for the night out!

I'd have no problem with doing the same but then I often wear scarves etc and am from a Northern community where this wouldn't seem odd!

DRS1970 · 26/04/2023 17:20

Just put a headscarf on.

ManchesterRoad · 26/04/2023 17:20

I would think you’re prepping your hair for a night out/event. I definitely wouldn’t judge you for it, I’d just be jealous that you were getting glammed up 😂

shivawn · 26/04/2023 17:23

I wouldn't mind going across to the park like that but ive tried this tutorial before and it didn't work for me at all.

zurala · 26/04/2023 17:23

I live in an affluent area of the south east and would raise an eyebrow. It looks slovenly to me, but I know in the North it's really normal so it depends where you live.

RausageSoul · 26/04/2023 17:40

I use a roller like that overnight, wear it to 6am spin, then shower - body -dressed, makeup and then roller out! Hair looks superb

FotheringtonThomasMinor · 26/04/2023 17:44

TBH if I saw someone with hair tied like that I'd assume that was a style in itself rather than a way of curling their hair for later.

CatticusFinch · 26/04/2023 18:04

I was just going to say go to Liverpool on a Saturday afternoon and every other woman has rollers in but I see someone has beaten me to it.

Hotvimto3 · 26/04/2023 18:06

I have no issue wearing rollers in the day and would assume any snotty looks would be due to envy at the amount of swish and volume I will be achieving 😄

I once flew out of Liverpool airport on New Year's Eve and I was about the only Woman without rollers in. I was the slovenly one Grin

I don't live in the north any more but wouldn't bat an eyelid OP.

fortnumsfinest · 26/04/2023 18:09

If the park is in Liverpool nobody would look twice at you.

GhostWorld · 26/04/2023 18:10

Okay that's definitely made me feel better about it even though I'm not up north.. I may be able to fashion a headscarf but its not something I've done before.

For those that it hasn't worked for, I tried with the ones you buy and couldn't do it, worked much better with dressing gown cord and few practice runs.

This really isn't common all across The North. I've never seen it frequently (or at all) outside Liverpool. I live in said north.

But yes go for it - I'd just be envious that you had amazing hair and a night out.

N0tANOoDl3He4D · 26/04/2023 18:11

I wouldn't give a flying fuck, there's no rules saying you can't do that.

Ba Dum Tss

LudicrouslyCapaciousBag · 26/04/2023 18:15

‘Slovenly’ is a strange choice of adjective from a pp. It implies dirtiness and a lack of care when surely the rollers / heatless curler imply that the person is taking enormous care in their appearance - the process is just not finished yet!

I probably wouldn’t go to the park with a head full of Carmens but the heatless curler just looks like a twisted braid.

Wow!! Snobby much? Who cares if you walk around with rollers in? How is it affecting you in any way, living your life far away from the peasants in the North. Get over yourself!!🤣🤣🤣🤣

SparkyBlue · 26/04/2023 18:18

I'd probably be jealous that you were off somewhere nice.

Me too!
But in my neck of the woods it def isn't a regular occurence!

canyouhandlefizz · 26/04/2023 18:20

Sorry to jump on your thread Op (I wouldn't look twice by the way), but what is it about Liverpool and the effort those women put into their looks?!

Can confirm from a weekend trip up there that loads and loads of young girls and older ladies were indeed walking around with rollers in and overall clearly spent a lot of time on their appearance

Are Northers generally more looks conscious? They were definitely nicer anyway, loads of people I've never seen in my life saying hello Grin I felt really welcome
