Bank holidays in May

Nanatokidsdogshampsters · 22/04/2023 09:47

I thought the bank holiday on the 1st may was cancelled and it's now on the 8th may
after the coronation.
And the one at the end of may stays as it is.
Or have I got that wrong and there are 3 bank holidays in May this year.

Yes three. I'd have preferred one be moved elsewhere or put as a Friday personally but I'm not going refuse the days off

MummaMeerkat · 22/04/2023 09:51

There are 3 bank Holidays in May. Fantastic if you're self employed 🙄

Bunnichick · 22/04/2023 09:51

Three

I start my new job on may 1st🙄

Beezknees · 22/04/2023 10:01

Yep, 3 bank holidays. 1st, 8th and 29th. DS also has inset day on the 26th plus with the teacher strikes he's not doing a full week at school for the next 4 weeks!

WhatTheHeckyPeck · 22/04/2023 10:15

Technically there are 3, although as the one on the 8th is not a statutory one it is up to individual companies to decide whether or not to shut. Ours is still faffing about whether or not to work (it's a factory), so I've just booked it off anyway with the option to cancel if the shutdown goes ahead.

Or if you work in a pharmacy.
DD is dreading it as they have fewer days to make up prescriptions and dosette boxes and they will get more patients than ever who haven't been able to see a GP.

People don't just get ill on normal working days.

Google is a great thing ☺️

It’s ridiculous. Our economy doesn’t need this and nor do the children who have missed more than enough school. Coronation should have been put around either of the usual 2 May Bank holidays or even a month without prior Bank Holidays, what a farce.Have no clue as to why it’s worked out like this.

TeenDivided · 22/04/2023 11:53

3 - Which is a bit of a shame as DD's course has a practical day on Mondays, so she has missed 2 extra this academic year due to funeral and then coronation.

greenwaterbottle12 · 22/04/2023 11:55

I'll be working all 3 thankfully

Galliano · 22/04/2023 11:57

I’m going away 30 April - 7 May. One day to pack and a day to get sorted when I get home before going back to work for 4 days annual leave. Also avoid being around for the coronation itself! I’m quite pleased with how it’s worked out 🤣

RestingMurderousFace · 22/04/2023 12:07

Oh hell, I loathe bank holidays. Such depressing Sundayish feeling days but worse because of the hoards of people roaming about everywhere. Reminds me of lockdown.

Delatron · 22/04/2023 12:10

Yep self employed so this is going to cost me. We don’t need 3 bank holidays in a row. Then nothing!! Why don’t they spread them out?!

UndercoverCop · 22/04/2023 12:12

There are five Mondays in May, three are bank holidays and I happen to have already booked the other two as annual leave! It's going to be a light working month

This. My year 9 is doing the same. Year 11 in on strike days

MyMachineAndMe · 22/04/2023 13:19

Yes, there are 3 bank hols in May this year and I love it. I must just move in completely different circles to most on here because I've never met anyone who doesn't welcome an extra day off.

Charles has a vicious temper by all accounts and has foisted this 100 million pound state funded event on 'his' people with his mistress queen.

I don't know why he couldn't get married in June - September so we could have had a BH in a different month.

Womencanlift · 22/04/2023 14:27

I love this time of year with Easter weekend followed closely by the two in May, this year 3. Great chance to get away for breaks

For the pp to say the economy doesn’t need it, do you know how many people will travel to the UK for it? Loads going by last year’s events and for those who don’t like watching it, I am sure a lot will go off and do something. Both things are great for the economy

NeverTrustAPoliceman · 22/04/2023 14:31

I'm self employed but choosing to work on two of the bank holidays, taking the day off on the third.

I think the whole king thing is a complete farce and will be ignoring it.

roarfeckingroarr · 22/04/2023 14:51

We lose £300 in nursery fees this month for no childcare. Absolute farce.
