Light hearted thread. Me and my partner always have discussions about this but is Jacket Potato a Saturday night dinner/tea?

I say it's not but partner disagrees x

Absolutely not

MrsCharlieD · 18/04/2023 18:57

That's like a Tuesday night tea.

Holycow23x · 18/04/2023 18:57

Definitely not! Take away or a lovely hearty cooked meal followed by plenty of wine!

frozendaisy · 18/04/2023 18:58

It is here.

Fancy oven crispy with amazing crunchy salad, fancy cheese, tuna, so posh jacket potato

Cakencookieobsessed · 18/04/2023 18:59

No, it's a bog standard lunch or midweek dinner.

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 18/04/2023 19:00

Nope!!! It's a Tuesday dinner

Monday - leftovers from the weekends roast / takeaway

Tuesday - baked spuds / soup and toasties etc

Wednesday - something from the slow cooker as I finally got my shit together

Thursday - Pasta and garlic bread

Friday - charcuterie, baked camembert, breads and wine

Saturday - take away or a nice steak

Sunday - roast or takeaway if we didn't get one sat.

Not set in stone, but that sort of vibe.

I love jacket potato, but it would be a disappointing Saturday night meal. Saturday nights are for curries, or paella or maybe tacos, different foods which have interesting elements and flavours.

DramaAlpaca · 18/04/2023 19:03

It could be if that's what we feel like eating on the day. We're very flexible about what we eat and when.

AtLeastThreeDrinks · 18/04/2023 19:03

Absolutely not.

The “posh” potato described above is how I’d do a midweek potato (sorry)!

frustratednomad · 18/04/2023 19:09

Having cooked every other 6 days of the week I refuse to cook on a saturday so it's either take away or jacket potato with cheese/beans, chilli from the freezer or just cheese and butter. I deserve one day off as dh can't cook/wont cook.

Hopingforbettertimesoon · 18/04/2023 19:19

My mother always served frozen pizza and jacket potato on a Saturday. It was pretty dry and just filled a whole! It was one pizza between 3. She had been working in a shop all day to earn some extra cash to keep us going. I used to dream of take aways. But she was doing her best and deserved not to have to cook that night.

so no not a good Saturday dinner if you have options but its okay and does its job. I would eat it .

Soproudoflionesses · 18/04/2023 19:21

God no

Oopswediditagain2023 · 18/04/2023 19:36

No.

slimdown · 18/04/2023 19:39

It's a Thursday night dinner in our house (the last day of the week, shop arrives Friday). I've ran out of ideas, the basket is total is looking too high, the potatoes will keep for a week from arriving...the family groans when they know it's jacket potatoes!

Saturdays is for one of the treat meals, takeaway or trying something new.

Growing up, lasagne was a classic Saturday night dish for us.

HappyHappyy · 18/04/2023 19:41

Steak, jacket potato, roasted veg or salad...absolutely a Saturday night tea!

Of course it is... With a nice big juicy steak

Or in our case a hearty meal preceded by plenty of wine Grin

ssd · 18/04/2023 19:56

No, its a shite dinner when i cant be arsed

ShinyAppleDreamingOfTheSea · 18/04/2023 20:04

It's my standard lunch - although I do it in the microwave so perhaps not the same .

When I was growing up we only had a snack for Saturday night tea but we always had our main meal in the day time .

BebbanburgIsMine · 18/04/2023 20:32

Like a previous poster said, it is if you want it to be!

Who cares if you have a Baked Tattie on a Saturday night, we do sometimes, DD likes hers with beans, and I have mine very plain with just a pinch of salt, I don't like butter at all, or any other filling, just a wee bit of salt.

slimdown · 18/04/2023 21:01

@BebbanburgIsMine may as well just have a bag of crisps Smile

BebbanburgIsMine · 18/04/2023 21:04

@slimdown

HaHa

I like my Baked Tattie just like it is!

😂

CorsicaDreaming · 18/04/2023 23:00

My favourite Saturday night is sushi, gyoza, edamame beans, or Peking Duck, with a bottle of fizz.

mynameiscalypso · 18/04/2023 23:02

No; it's a Sunday night dinner for us.

CorsicaDreaming · 19/04/2023 00:03

I do love a jacket potato - but it wouldn't feel a very special Saturday night kind of thing. But on a cold night you can't beat jacket, beans, and sausages. With coleslaw and cheese if you're really pushing the boat out.
