Passport Renewal Waiting Times

Anyone renewed their passport recently?? How long did it take? They recieved my old passport a week ago.. nothing has been updated since on the online tracker..I know it says allow upto 10 weeks but my son's 1st passport last year took 8 weeks. (They lost his application photo though) this is just my renewal hoping to go away in 7 weeks can only apply for fast track when it's been 6 weeks 🙈 unsure what to do as the longer we wait to book the holiday the price will shoot up as its half term.

10 days for sons first passport. But we sent off a day or two before the strikes were announced.

Mumfirst2 · 17/04/2023 15:25

@PurBal wow that's fast 8 weeks for my sons last year and thats with no strikes.. it says online the strikes won't affect the wait time though.. my husbands took a week last year maybe even less I just hope it won't take longer than 6

12 days for me for when I renewed earlier this year.

Topseyt123 · 17/04/2023 15:29

Two weeks for mine last year. Same for DD3's (also last year).

Doing the online forms and taking own photos rather than the paper ones that go in the post was far better.

Namechange13101 · 17/04/2023 15:31

9 days for adult renewal at end of March :-)

PilatesPeach · 17/04/2023 15:32

Thought they were on strike for 5 weeks until beginning of May so surely this will delay matters more than the the usual wait.

mizu · 17/04/2023 15:34

Less than 2 weeks for 3 passports- as pp has said, much quicker I think to do all online.

This was in March this year.

nilsmousehammer · 17/04/2023 15:35

Mine's just turned around in ten days.

WhoHidTheCoffee · 17/04/2023 15:37

We got a child renewal and a child first passport issued in around two weeks. The renewal was slightly quicker. This was just before the strikes.

tatteddear · 17/04/2023 15:51

I just got mine back in 7 days! But that was before the strike.

Stressfordays · 17/04/2023 15:55

Applied for 3 children's first passports 27th of March. Got 2 approved 12th April and arrived on the 14th. My youngest needed some extra info sending off which I sent on the 13th and it has been approved today. Theyre moving quickly despite the strikes! There is a Facebook group called passport waiting times UK that is full of useful information.

Valhalla17 · 17/04/2023 15:56

I sent mine and ds off for renewal on 3rd April. Delivered today, despite the strike. Pretty chuffed!

Mumfirst2 · 17/04/2023 16:12

@Stressfordays @Valhalla17 aww that's great! Considering the strikes too, I mean they were quick to update me that they have received my old passport that was 10th April do during strikes too.. but what happens now? Does it update on the tracker that its in 'examination' or does it just say approved?? Because its a renewal?

I did DD's last month. It updated on the tracker everything the next process happened.

Okki · 17/04/2023 16:16

Just checked. Had received, approved, printed and then the delivery Co told me when they were delivering it.

YesSmithers · 17/04/2023 16:17

I sent my old passport away 6th April, and got a text today to say the new one is being printed.

rogueone · 17/04/2023 16:21

I did my sons renewal on line on the 28th March and received it on the 5th April.

SuperGinger · 17/04/2023 17:01

My DD's took a week, good luck

Mumfirst2 · 17/04/2023 17:04

@YesSmithers aww mine was 7th but nothing yet just says we have received your old passport hopefully it comes soon I was planning on going away 4th June so even after strike has ended it still gives a few weeks

Thanks for this post, I have messed up and forgotten to include my middle name on my renewal like an idiot and I was worried it would slow things down massively but looking at that it might not!
Did they email you to ask for the further information please?

Sunshineandshowers39 · 18/04/2023 17:16

Sent mine off on the day the strikes were announced... Had new one in 10 days. Was very relieved as going away at the end of May, which was exactly 10 weeks from when I sent passport off.

Yes they emailed me with what I needed to send. Sent it the next day, I didn't get a notification saying documents received like I did with the initial documents, they just approved it shortly afterwards.

Clickcamera · 18/04/2023 20:34

Thank you Stressfordays, that is reassuring.

DeeCeeCherry · 18/04/2023 20:46

I applied for renewal on 18 March and got my passport yesterday (London)

PretzelBite · 18/04/2023 21:06

So jealous of some of these replies! I applied for my dd’s first child passport, documents received there 17th May according to Royal Mail and I’m still getting texts from the passport office asking me to send the documents. So bloody ages I’m guessing.
