Church outfits

So I’m really struggling with what to wear to church. I’m very jeans, boots and smart tops kind of thing for my every day wear and don’t have the figure for a nice dress, also I’m large chested so I would feel uncomfortable in a slightly revealing outfit suited more for flat chested girls. I feel turning up in jeans is so dressed down though. Any ideas in getting ready now with no idea what to wear. Of course dc have an abundance of nice outfits to wear

I have worn jeans (clean, not ripped, not super baggy cut) to church with no issues.

What do you mean you don't have the figure for a nice dress?

What about a skirt and jumper?

SummerHouse · 16/04/2023 09:13

Jeans, boots, smart top sounds perfect. Go with what you like and feel comfortable in.

Dontsparethehorses · 16/04/2023 09:14

Jeans is absolutely fine for church - you don’t need to dress up every week. Better to be causal than uncomfortable and definitely don’t go for anything revealing that would be inappropriate

Lots of jeans at our church. I think Sunday best is a thing of the past for most churches

horridjobescapee · 16/04/2023 09:17

I don't go to church anymore but when I was there and when I'm there for an event there's plenty of people in jeans and a nice top?

gloriousnamechangesgalore · 16/04/2023 09:18

There's a gazillion dresses that aren't revealing though, and so many styles that you would find one to suit your shape if you wanted to?

Is it more that you WANT to wear jeans but are embarrassed at what others may think?

FinallyHere · 16/04/2023 09:21

Why does it matter what you look like on the outside? Surely for church it's what's inside that matters, or have I misunderstood the whole premise of Christianity?

ODFOx · 16/04/2023 09:22

If you don't feel that your jeans are dressy enough buy some other trousers or a straight skirt ? Then you can still wear your favourite tops.

PurBal · 16/04/2023 09:22

Wear jeans. I go to a traditional church (liberal socially but traditional in terms of worship) and I had my nipples out taking communion at the altar rail whilst breastfeeding my son. Not only was it not a problem, I had 4 people come up to me afterwards very supportive. God doesn’t mind how you dress, and not do most members of the congregation.

DorotheaFrazil · 16/04/2023 09:28

I regularly wear jeans and a jumper. Very rural small village, traditional older congregation. Quite often people wander around in just socks as they leave their wellies at the door!

Holly03 · 16/04/2023 09:30

Thank you for your support. I think my issues with the way I dress is from my past relationship and the issues it left me with the way I look and my body shape(slightly larger woman even though I’m tall). I’ve opted for my usual dress style as I’ve noticed my church is laid back but I was always brought up to attend church in a very formal attire when attending with my family. Even visiting family I have had to make sure I’m in Sunday best.

Jeans for Jesus! 😁

TheProvincialLady · 16/04/2023 09:32

Isn’t that incredibly cold @DorotheaFrazil ?!?! My feet get cold enough wearing boots during the winter in our draughty Victorian church. Perhaps you rural types are more hardy 😀

OP wear jeans if you like. I doubt anyone will notice or care.

ostentatiousocelot · 16/04/2023 09:54

Do you have any other trousers in your wardrobe, or just jeans? If so you could wear the boots and smart top with those? It doesn't have to be a choice between jeans and dresses if you want to dress slightly more smartly but don't feel comfortable in dresses.

Sunday best went out with the dinosaurs. I was having coffee at a friend’s recently, and her house is next door to a church (an old rectory), so I could see the Sunday morning crowd leaving the main service. Everything from a pair of behatted elderly women to people in jeans to people visibly on their way out for a hike (walking boots and waterproofs) to gym gear.

Snoopsnoggysnog · 16/04/2023 10:01

What about a jumpsuit if you want something a bit smarter than jeans?

Whataretheodds · 16/04/2023 10:03

If it makes you feel more comfortable, buy a pair of trousers in a fabric and colour that you love and wear them with your jumpers. Cords, chinos, crepe, there are loads of trousers available.

Elisheva · 16/04/2023 10:04

I’m just about to leave for church in jeans, trainers and hoodie 🤷‍♀️

WaitingForSunnyDays · 16/04/2023 10:06

I always wear jeans to church. Apart from the local church with a mainly black congregation every church round me wouldn't bat an eyelid at anyone turning up in jeans, shorts or anything casual. Mostly churches are just glad to have someone turn up!

DaisyWaldron · 16/04/2023 10:06

Depends on the church. The one I used to go to generally had people wearing smart clothes, so left and started going to one where people wear smart dresses or shorts, or dungarees or whatever they feel like.

Babdoc · 16/04/2023 10:07

My DD, when a teenager, went to church wearing home made knitted purple dreadlocks and a white mini skirt. Probably hoping to provoke a reaction, but all she got was one old lady saying to her “Oh, I wish I was young again, I love that look!”.
Honestly, OP, I regularly go in jeans and a hoodie. Nobody is formally dressed at my church - we are there to share in communal worship and prayer, not a fashion parade. God loves you the same and welcomes you whatever your clothing. It’s your soul and wellbeing He cares about.

eastereggs12 · 16/04/2023 10:07

Most people wear jeans in our church, even the vicar is in jeans and trainers.

Wear your normal clothes, be comfortable, what is important is your belief not the superficial things

Decafflatteplease · 16/04/2023 10:14

Wear whatever you feel comfortable in.

Our church has all types from older people in suits to teens in jeans and a hoody.

burgledinParis · 16/04/2023 10:15

If you feel like you would enjoy wearing a dress you should! Of course you have the figure for a dress, every woman does.

What is the reason for going to church?
If it's an every week thing I would say jeans is probably more common then you think.
If it's an event like a christening I personally wouldn't wear jeans.
