Passport renewal turnaround time

DS (14) needs new passport by 8th July. We were going to do fast track due to strikes but no appointments seem to be available online. Am nervous about posting old passport but we are well within recommended 10 weeks if it's sent today. Anyone got recent experience of impact of strikes on renewal times or any advice please?

No but I'm in a very similar position.
Just posted off and we go mid-July so all I can do is cross my fingers and hope.
Good luck!

GlassQueen · 15/04/2023 12:13

I renewed my daughter’s online and posted the old one two weeks ago. New passport arrived yesterday. You should be fine.

MissBattleaxe · 15/04/2023 12:15

We were told ten weeks, did everything online by the book and had it back ten days later.

MissMogwai · 15/04/2023 12:17

I'd send it off. We sent ours off for renewal on the 31st March and DH's new one came yesterday!

Just waiting for mine but its a name change too so expect a little longer.

DrHousecuredme · 15/04/2023 12:18

Mine, at this time last year took two weeks too.
I'm hoping that renewals are faster as they're quite straightforward 🤞🏾🤞🏾

AgapanthusandAcers · 15/04/2023 12:22

We applied on the 27th of March ( a Sunday) and got them on the 12th April. That was obviously including the Easter Bank holidays.

AgapanthusandAcers · 15/04/2023 12:23

Should have said they were renewals (2 children and 1 adult).

Georgiepud · 15/04/2023 12:27

My first photo got rejected but once I sent a more acceptable one the passport was turned round in days. About 3 weeks in total.

Emus · 15/04/2023 12:29

We were told ten weeks as well but had it back within two/three weeks (child passport). Good luck, hopefully you'll be fine.

Shamoo · 15/04/2023 12:31

Very quick recently for both my mum and dad.

LakeFlyPie · 15/04/2023 15:10

Thanks all, v reassuring. It's in the post 🤞

I’ve been waiting six weeks so far, and still no sign of it. It’s still saying “passport has been printed.” I contacted them and they said it had been returned by the courier as undeliverable, so they have sent it out again. But I’ve had no tracking number from DHL, just a text saying “we’re getting your passport soon and will let you know when you have it.” So it’s anyone’s guess if it will actually turn up.

Smokingonthestairs · 15/04/2023 15:30

I just got one, child renewal , took about 9 days I was amazed (and relieved!).

Namechange13101 · 15/04/2023 15:35

DH sent online application for renewal on 19th March, and new passport revived on 28th March so very quick!

Jenniferturkington · 15/04/2023 15:37

Just did dd’s. It too two weeks in total and that included the initial photo being rejected and me having to submit a new one.

Loafbeginsat60 · 15/04/2023 17:17

Did you all do the standard online passport application or did you pay for the quick versions? It's about twice the price so I wasn't sure if it's needed or not

We fly 30/6

Smokingonthestairs · 15/04/2023 20:27

I did standard application online, with the photos taken and approved at the post office . Old passport sent with signed for next day post.
Think ours went to corby office?

forwardsandbackwardsandup · 15/04/2023 21:36

I applied for mine 24th March, they received my old passport and docs on 31st March and I got my new passport in the post on 13th April.

hoping2016 · 15/04/2023 21:43

sent mine on 3rd April and had a message yesterday to say its been processed and should be sent out soon. I was also concerned about the strike as going away in July, seems to have gone through OK though

PurBal · 15/04/2023 21:44

DS was back in 10 days.

VariationsonaTheme · 15/04/2023 21:44

Sent mine 9 days ago, email today to say it’s being printed.

StillMedusa · 15/04/2023 22:13

My Son in Laws and grandson's (his first) were back within 10 days... applied at the end of March . They seem to be whacking through them ! (applied online and home photos accepted)

catchthedog · 15/04/2023 22:17

just done mine, was under 2 weeks. didn't pay for fast track either

mrstea301 · 15/04/2023 22:31

I did the digital check and send at the post office on 29th March, including a name change, and got my passport back on Tuesday this week. I told them it wasn't urgent as I've not got a holiday or anything booked yet but it was still really quick!

Hellocatshome · 15/04/2023 22:37

2 weeks for DS2, 3 weeks for DS1
