Experiences of recovery time after vasectomy

Hoping for some experiences from others. DH is booked in for vasectomy soon, and a week and a half later I have a weekend away planned. Can anyone share any experiences of recovery time so we can see if it is likely he'll be ok to look after 2 DCs alone (age 2 & 4) for a couple of days? Thanks in advance

It can vary a lot. I know one guy who was up and about within 48 hours and another who was in bed for 10 days. His consultant should be able to advise.

Yes but genuinely in bed in too much pain to get up, or figuring his partner wouldn't catch on to him getting 10 days off work being weighted on hand and foot?

DH had to move his cos I was away the same night leaving him with 3 kids, currently plan is he'll go to his Mom's on the Fri night (cos my 3 yo twins are crotch height), possibly the second night then be home by the Sunday, off work Mon for BH and Tues booked just in case.

Very minor operation.

Acetaminophen and cold pack. Should be fine the next day.

Of course if he's a dirty bird and doesn't wash his hands with soap and water and touches and picks at it, he'll end up with an infection.

Mine was back in work the following day. He did wfh but was back out the day after.

My DP had his done over a Friday lunchtime. He was back at work (from home) later that day and was fine apart from a bit of swelling - paracetamol/ibuprofen helped. The thing he found most annoying was being unable to mountain bike for a few weeks (doctor's advice rather than pain related).

DH had his done and couldn't be bothered to wait for me to pick him up from hospital so came home on the bus.
He was a bit tender for a few days. But not in any major pain. Then he was absolutely fine.
This was a few years back.
It was the best thing he could have done. Such a relief to stop bothering about contraception, once he was given the all clear.

Hi op, my partner had the snip at 10am and went to work as a chef at 3pm. He said it was quite achey. He had to wear tighty whiteys with a sanitary pad in to hood his testicles in place while he healed. About 3 weeks we had sex and he said it's stung quite a bit . But he said over all the most painful part was having his testicles numbed

He had his testicle numbed?!?

They don't go near testicles! You've been had!!!

bagheera92 · 15/04/2023 10:44

They do Grin he also has a tiny scar on each testicle

Genuinely in pain, in this instance. Haematoma. (sp?)

2 days actual recovery, before doing everything he was doing beforehand. 2weeks plus of complaining about it at some point every day. Further month of complaining when he remembered. Still sometimes brought up as a reason to not overdo things for 2-3 years on.
When called out about it funnily enough will admit was not that bad.

Where do you think they do the op.....?

Comfyonion · 15/04/2023 12:58

😂DH said it better be the testicles since that's where the doctor looked in his consultation.

In all seriousness though, thank you for all your replies.

DH was fine after a couple of days of taking it easy.

WoodenFloorboards · 15/04/2023 13:07

Probably fine, possibly not. He might be unlucky with an infection or something (DH was literally bedridden and properly ill until the emergency antibios kicked in), so maybe think about having an emergency plan B in place, but ten days should be fine.

TheNachtzehrer · 15/04/2023 13:09

DH had his done in the morning, took the afternoon off work. WFH the next few days but otherwise fine. He didn't complain of pain at all; I think he took OTC paracetamol and ibuprofen as needed. He could have cared for the kids solo at any time.
