Hanging out washing tomorrow

It has been suggested to me that hanging out washing tomorrow is not OK due to it being one of the holiest days of the Christian year. I'm going to do it anyway, none of our neighbours show any signs of being religious of any type, and it's going to be a good drying morning.

Surely this is an outdated and weird idea? Or am I in the wrong for gathering up the towels ready to put a wash on first thing?

Due to it raining non stop Monday and Tuesday, unfortunately I don’t have a choice. I try not to do too much at the weekend, just because we have family time then.

heldinadream · 08/04/2023 17:06

Thanks OP I might well hang some washing out tomorrow, good yo be reminded that it's going to be a good washing day!
Who on earth said you couldn't? Ludicrous idea!

SmallAngryPenguinWoman · 08/04/2023 17:09

Growing up I was told we couldn't hang out washing on a Sunday, so I imagine Easter Sunday would be an even bigger no-no. I, however, pay absolutely no attention whatsoever to such claptrap! Hang up your washing all day long 😁

DappledThings · 08/04/2023 17:12

Lifelong church-goer here from a family with 3 generations of clergy. Never heard such a thing.

RandomUsernameHere · 08/04/2023 17:13

I've never even heard of that! So on that basis I'd say go ahead

EVHead · 08/04/2023 17:13

Don’t go cutting your toenails though. Not a Sunday thing. Apparently. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Mistymoonsinastarrysky · 08/04/2023 17:14

My mother would have said no to hanging out washing on Easter Sunday, I’m not religious so it wouldn’t stop me.

GreenWheat · 08/04/2023 17:15

I am not religious so will be hanging mine up as normal.

Ffsmakeitstop · 08/04/2023 17:17

I've one lot ready to go out and another in the machine. I'm not religious but if I were I'm afraid cost of living atm and trying to do a little bit for the environment trump all other considerations. Just need to hope it's dry before the idiots next door light their BBQ or firepit.

Muchtoomuchtodo · 08/04/2023 17:19

I’ve never heard of that!

It’s going to be raining again by Monday so go for it!

Mrsjayy · 08/04/2023 17:19

My Gran never hung out washing on Easter if any Sunday apparently it wasn't the "done thing" she wasn't participating religious either. If it's nice hang it out 😃

Allwelcome · 08/04/2023 17:20

Can't think why god or jesus would object personally...

Gh12345 · 08/04/2023 17:22

Never heard such rubbish!

TimeForMeToF1y · 08/04/2023 17:28

How did the person who told you explain the connection between washing and religious festivals?

JustGotToKeepOnKeepingOn · 08/04/2023 17:29

Ever heard such a load of clap trap. If the washing needs to be done it needs to be down. I couldn't care less what people think. My washing will be out tomorrow.

Georgyporky · 08/04/2023 17:40

Never heard of this, is it a strange, foreign habit ? 😀

Mutabiliss · 08/04/2023 17:42

If you're not Christian it's not relevant to you, surely? Never heard such rubbish myself.

Marchforward · 08/04/2023 17:44

Day of rest. Except for cooking the roast obviously 😂

Timeforachangeisitnot · 08/04/2023 17:45

This was a thing when I was growing up. As a teenager, when parents were away, sister & I did the big clean prior to them coming home, and our elderly neighbour complained about us hanging out washing on a Sunday. Told my mum - who no doubt shrugged as the heathen she was.(Scotland)

Decafflatteplease · 08/04/2023 17:46

Christian here and I think it's fine. And will be doing it myself! Surely it's care for God's earth to use the sun and wind to dry rather than electric!

dementedpixie · 08/04/2023 17:48

I would hang clothes out if it wasn't going to be raining.

PartnersInCrime · 08/04/2023 17:49

I will be washing when we get home and hanging on the airer - because it will be too late for outside.

My granny always said - no needlework on a Sunday as you'll poke Him in the eye. Sure there were lots of other rules too! No sports or shops open for example....

Mrsjayy · 08/04/2023 17:50

I had a friend from college who grew up on a Scottish island I visited often and the family did hardly anything nothing on a Sunday and definitely no washing,

GOW56 · 08/04/2023 17:50

I've never heard that. It's up to the individual what they do.
Put your washing out if you want to!

MaryJean87 · 08/04/2023 17:52

I've never heard of it. I'm not religious and I don't give a fuck what the neighbours think. Why do you care??
