Are modern teenagers familiar with the Simpsons?

Just that really. I'm very curious, and lots of people on here have teenagers and might know!

Vaguely, in my experience, but not really. I teach teenagers and they tend to have an awareness but not to know the characters beyond Bart and Homer.

Many have encyclopaedic knowledge of Friends, however!

NorthFaceofthelaundrypile · 06/04/2023 08:07

DS is obsessed with it! Will pick out favourite episodes.

Brendabigbaps · 06/04/2023 08:07

10 yr old is Simpson obsessed, it’s on Disney +

No, none of mine know it.

VegetablesFightingToReclaimTheAubergieneEmoji · 06/04/2023 08:08

Yes. South Park, family guy, simpsons.

AmberGer · 06/04/2023 08:11

My Son loves it, he has for years. He's watched every episode they've ever made at least once but absolutely loves the treehouse of horror specials.

almostwarm · 06/04/2023 08:14

DS likes it but loves South Park currently.
DD knows the main characters.

DiscoBeat · 06/04/2023 08:19

Absolutely! DS15 and DS12 still love it, know most of the episodes and now enjoy picking out the risqué stuff and the political references that the never saw before.

DiscoBeat · 06/04/2023 08:19

(DS15 is also into South Park)

whistkesore · 06/04/2023 08:20

Yep!

CindersAgain · 06/04/2023 08:20

Mine says he thinks everyone knows what it is, but it’s not a big thing.

AppleKatie · 06/04/2023 08:21

I agree with vaguely.

SharonEllis · 06/04/2023 08:21

Mine are but that's because my partner loves it. My friends were quite disapproving that we let them watch it as kids. Doesn't seem to have affected them other than quite a well developed sense of the absurd, and a good stock of family jokes. I don't think their friends are very familiar with it.

YourMagicSwirlingShip · 06/04/2023 08:21

Yes, mine went through a Simpsons phase - they found it on all4 or disney+ I think. Older one also likes South Park.

LubaLuca · 06/04/2023 08:22

Yes, it's a constant feature on TV so all young people will be aware of it.

MrsBennetsPoorNerves · 06/04/2023 08:22

Yes, mine is familiar with it. Hasn't watched it loads though.

Refrosty · 06/04/2023 08:26

My 7 year old loves it. Loves randomly shouting 'Hey Homie, I can see your doodle' 😶

TheVanguardSix · 06/04/2023 08:27

Definitely. Mine went through a big Simpsons phase in the last couple of years. But Family Guy has always been the household favourite.
South Park seems to be the present hit with mine. I don’t watch it. It’s just too much for me. Though the Worlwide Privacy Tour was a slice of pure genius.

Bugbeau · 06/04/2023 08:33

I have an 11 year old who has watched lots of episodes on Disney + as have most of his friends. I would say they will be familiar but not as obsessed as kids were when I was a child (in the 90s).

Rockbird · 06/04/2023 08:34

11yo dd knew the character names except Maggie and Marge but she knows the show. 15yo is still asleep.

curlywillow · 06/04/2023 08:34

Mine are 18 and 16 and they say everyone watches it

curlywillow · 06/04/2023 08:34

And family guy

LyndaSnellsSniff · 06/04/2023 08:36

My 16 and 13 year olds went through an obsessive phase recently. Now, rather worryingly, the 13 year old is hooked on old Top Gear episodes. 😬

TeenDivided · 06/04/2023 08:36

My 18yo is, though she isn't a typical teenager.
The references to other things are quite useful for broadening her general knowledge.

liveforsummer · 06/04/2023 08:36

Teenager yes, 10 year old not so much - it's not on Netflix after all 😆
